Xbox was the Hulk, Xbox 360 is Bruce Lee

The Xbox design team held a presentation for SIGCHI (a usability interest group in Seattle) on the usability of the Xbox 360. Someone took notes and pictures and posted them. It gives you an interesting look behind the scenes of the design process of the Xbox 360 and it’s dashboard. Quite an interesting read with some pictures of concepts for the Xbox 360 and the dashboard that didn’t make it…

On the original XBOX there were 45 screens that needed to fit on 250MB while on the new design and complexity of the system there were 450 screens. These screens had to fit on 2.5MB. To accomplish this was quite a feat.

I like the loop one.

Me too but the final design is much more usable.

I do like the look of the Loop Dashboard, wish we had the option to switch between a couple of designs (especially Loop and Concertina). Deffinately glad they chose the 360 design they did though, it’s the most stylish one by far.

I believe the final design is based off a Windows Vista feature where you can have multiple file folders open besides eachother.

Omgwtf. Pilot and Concertina are so cool.

I like this one, though, but it’d be a sweet feature, being allowed to choose.

Doug; Concertina is the one that got chosen as the final. It’s the one you see on your Xbox 360 everyday (in a slightly modified form).
