New Silent Hill 5 details
SilentHill5.net has posted the details of a transcription of an article on the game in this month’s EGM. Developer The Collective has a lot of expectations to live up to, which might worry some since the last title they released was The Da Vinci Code
Silent Hill 5 will feature an entirely new plot, and will follow Alex Shepard as he searches for his missing father and brother. The game begins with Alex in a veteran’s hospital recovering from a near fatal wound. After having a premonition that his younger brother is in danger, Alex leaves the hospital for his home in New England. Alex’s military background will play into the story and the gameplay, but the developer states that the game will not take a political stance, it only confronts the horrors of the protagonist’s psychological state.
The grain filter will return to Silent Hill 5, and it will be joined by others that will create debris and cracks on the screen to change the mood and atmosphere of the game. The Havok engine will also be used to realistically recreate object physics. When the player bumps into something, it will react accordingly and can even make noise to attract enemies. Unlike previous Silent Hill games, the player will be able to control the camera with the right stick.
Boss battles will be returning and The Collective mentioned that they’re looking to create Zelda-esque encounters. Multiple endings will be back as well, but this time around they won’t focus so much on single events, but rather the player’s actions throughout the game and how the player interacts with other characters.
Silent Hill 5 is also taking some cues from the Silent Hill movie. Like in the movie, the transition between the two worlds will occur in real time with the paint peeling away, or bursting into flesh covered walls. The game will also follow the movie’s lead with regard to enemies and will use motion capture to create their animations. The enemies will also have visible effects on them like boils and pustules that are animated and react when the player attacks. Look for more news on Silent Hill 5 as it nears its release sometime next year.

The first time I played BioShock I almost pissed myself.
I’ve never tried Silent Hill, I’ve heard it scary, but this sounds like a good game.
you almost pissed yourself?
as in laughing or it was scary?
Cause it was scary at first. My friends told me to get the demo, they didn’t say it would be a horror shooter. I thought it was just another shooter. But I’m over it now. I’m trying to beat it on Hard now.
“When the player bumps into something, it will react accordingly and can even make noise to attract enemies”
You forgot to mention that when the player kills the enemies, they’ll lie on the floor spazzing away with their hands flapping like crazy, just like every other game that uses the Havok engine.
Yeah, but I like that, it’s funny.
The feet in bioshock tapping left and right should’ve been noted as a feature on the back of the box. Seriously that was the shit.
except the footsteps often continue to sound off for several seconds after you stop, causing you to think there is someone chasing you when there isn’t.
Ooo silent hill. :3 Will deffo try this. Loved the first one the most
the first silent hill was one of the best games i have ever played. with multiple endings, and an absolutely disturbingly twisted plot, it was for sure the scariest and one of the most intense games for me. if you haven’t ever seen it, check out president evil’s plot guide to silent hill. he goes deep into the puzzle that is, that game. it turns out the american release of that game had many of the more twisted aspects removed for a more sensitive western market, and that is why the damn thing is so convoluted when you play through, but if you check the plot guide, it is a truly frightening situation that you have stumbled upon. anyway, it is a LONG read, but totally worth it.
whoops:

You do realize that when someone is murdered, they really do spazz all over like that. It is because the the nerve’s in our body’s just the same as when most people die they deficate on themselves, again due to the nerves being shorted, and the loss of control via the brain.
People can actually piss and shit themselves aswell. But the physics in Bioshock are weird, kinda looks like they’re waving at you.
oh man i cant wait for this game. i’ve been a huge Silent Hill fan since day one. im defenetly buyin this game. Silent Hill rules!!!!!!
“The game will also follow the movie’s lead with regard to enemies and will use motion capture to create their animations.”
WHOAH, ok I am one of the biggest Silent Hill fans ever. Played em’ all, even got Origins upon its release, BUT the previous games did’t use MOTION CAPTURE, and guess what? THEY WERE THE SHIT!!! I’m in Game Design and MOTION CAPTURE isnt always a good idea, A MORE NON HUMAN APROACH IS BETTER FOR THE DEMONS/MONSTERS, hence, NO MO-CAP!!!
yeah, that does sound strange, forcing a person to pretend he is a deformed demon, and then stumble around a tiny stage with ping pong balls strapped to his ass, just to simulate the movements of fictitious video game entity.
and i have to say, the enemy movements have been sensational so far. even in origins on the psp, there are some fucked up looking stumbling freaks making some absolutely stunning moves. they have always done well with enemies being slow and apparently unaware, and then POUNCING when you get to close. it is quick and painful and it is going to be very difficult to simulate by a person.
