Next Wednesday on XBLA: Fatal Fury and Cyberball
Since this coming weekend is Labor Day weekend, Microsoft thought it best to let us know about next Wednesday’s Arcade games earlier than usual. It’s been confirmed that Cyberball 2072 and Fatal Fury Special will make their way to the XBLA next Wednesday. Sorry gamers, it seems Sensible World of Soccer and War World will have to wait a bit longer.
First up is Atari’s unique take on American football. The fact that makes this game play different to its real-life counterpart is the use of robots instead of muscled men, and an explosive ball as opposed to the prolate spheroid ball. Unless possession of the ball is changed through fumble, interception, or touchdown, the ball will switch to its critical state and self-destroy, along with the robot holding it. Also, robots aren’t immune to tackles, as they gradually fag out until they burst into flames, resulting in losing the ball to the opposition. Cyberball 2072 will be made available for 400 MSP.
Features
- Play selection: Call more than 100 plays for your robotic team.
- Beat the Coach: The Beat the Coach mode enables you to go up against the A.I., simulating a live opponent.
- Challenge Mode: The special Challenge Mode tests your ability to make the play under pressure.
Improve your team: Build up your win record, and buy upgraded robots to improve your roster. - Futuristic football action: Fast football action with robots. The ball gets hotter with each play and can only be reset by moving past the 50-yard line or scoring a touchdown. Keep your eye on the ball!
Next, Fatal Fury Special is an adaptation of the 1993 original which was basically an updated version of Fatal Fury 2. The classic 2-D fighting game will feature fifteen playable characters, along with a special hidden character (Ryo Sakazaki by any chance? Oops!), and will allow players to battle it out over Xbox Live. Fatal Fury Special will retail for 400 MSP as well.
Features
- Fifteen (plus one) unique characters: All your favorite characters are here, including Terry Bogard, Billy Kane, Wolfgang Krauser, and a special hidden character.
- Classic fighting arcade action updated: The classic game has all the original features of the arcade smash, but has been updated for high-definition displays.
- Twelve unique achievements: Twelve new achievements, ranging from easy such as beating a fighter without sustaining any damage, to difficult, such as taking 10 straight wins on Xbox LIVE, are presented for you to master.
- Four leaderboards: Four ways to track your overall performance in the game.
Any fans delighted at this news?

What the Hell!
I can’t wait for Fatal Fury.
I always liked Fatal Fury as a good alternative to Street Fighter 2 in the arcades. Stil not buying it though. I’m waiting for the the Street Fighter HD remix. Never played Cyberball before.
Nice of them to set a release date for Swos then go back on themselves!!! so much for the game being ready!! Idiots!
nice about fatal fury though, top game
FFS - when has there been an OFFICIAL Swos release date?? Give it a rest.
Hey, what can you say… Peeps want SWOS.
I want it also but what I don’t want is to read the constant, uninformed moaning about it.
Then… uhhh… don’t read it ?
Logical, Yes ?
come on!!! fatal fury woot mai mai mai
Cyberball looks ugly
God I am so sick of watching the dog shit pile up every wednesday. Xbox magazine has a review and tip feature for Undertow in their most recent issue. So I guess the next step would be to… um… I dont know… FUCKING RELEASE IT MAYBE?? Why am I reading reviews and tips for a game I can’t even play yet? Why am I being offered a dirty diaper for 400 MS points every week instead of a decent game? I have yet to see an arcade game that isn’t complete shit since summer began.
