EA explain what to expect with FIFA 08

There’s been a lot of coverage for FIFA already this year, but EA have been kind enough to send out a press release documenting everything we can expect when the game ships in a few weeks. There’s some new information too that may have gone undocumented before, so hit the jump for all the gossip.

EA have stated that the game will be running at 60 frames per second, which is indeed a great thing to keep going. However we are still waiting for the demo that was promised ages ago, so you can’t judge for yourself just yet (unless you went to Leipzig). There are some new modes for the game too, where you can play as just one player for the entire ninety minutes in “Be a Pro” mode. It won’t be the same as what Konami offer though, as a unique camera angle is promised in FIFA 08. Sounds intriguing. There will also be 620 licenced teams, 30 official leagues, and more than 15,000 players to choose from.

Another debuting mode for the game is “Interactive Leagues”, which allows you to take control of your favourite team (so long as they play in the F.A. Premier League, Bundesliga, French League or Mexican 1st Division) and “play when they play”. Again, very intriguing to see how exactly this will work.

The full list of key features then:

  • Clinical Finishing - A true next-generation ball-striking engine calculates shot success by combining an almost infinite number of different contexts, including ball spin, pressure from defenders, player attributes, and even air pressure to recreate the drama and unpredictable nature of shooting.
  • Intelligent Football - Now featuring AI with a 35-point decision engine which enables players to process 1,000 potential options and reactions every second in real time — more than 60,000 options every minute — via a dynamic ‘Threat Map’ system to capture the excitement and realism of football.
  • Be a Pro: Offline Training - Think and react like a real professional football player. Play the entire game as a fixed player while getting real time feedback and analysis on the fly. A unique camera angle keeps both player and action in focus, zooming in when you’re on attack.
  • Pro Skills - A new, organic building-block system enables you to combine tricks and skill moves together to recreate signature moves from the real-world superstars or define your own style of play. Animations can be interrupted at any time to transition into a new move, just like real life.
  • Manual Controls - Dictate the play with new manual controls for through-passing and crossing. Now use the right-stick to quickly switch defenders and choose exactly who you want defending, when you want him.
  • Online Leagues – Create and organize your own multiplayer Friends Leagues and tournaments with all the tools in-game.

It’s also worth mentioning again that FIFA 08 will, for the first time, allow five human players to take control of the same team online, meaning ten people in total can partake in the same game. Will it be laggy? Will it work? Who knows, you’ll have to wait until the end of the month to find out.

Glad to know the old DVD9/limiting FIFA 07 rumour is squashed with this 620 teams thing.

I’m looking forward to Be A Pro and 5v5 online - it obviously won’t be as good as Evo, but FIFA 07 was a big step forward.

“where you can play as just one player for the entire ninety minutes in “Be a Pro” mode. It won’t be the same as what Konami offer though, as a unique camera angle is promised” - are you saying the unique camera angle is promised by Konami, or in reference to a similar comment further down about FIFA?

Cleared that up for you.

Thanks. I got my hopes up of a secret feature in PES :(

I knew it was too much to ask for - a new feature in Evo.

some nice features cant wait to play 5v5 online and be a pro mode sound s good as well the ball striking technolgey sounds much better although id still like a footy game where 1 button was to pass and a running pass and the other was for both shooting and crossing so that it gives u more control over the direction of the ball

ROFL.

I used to hate soccer, and everything that was soccer… and then I played Fifa 06, and I’ve been hooked on video game soccer ever since.

Well I played it at Leipzig. And it sucks as always.Players move funny,Goalkeeper just stands ther and the ball is like 10 inches from him. After the moves trailer i got all excited. But when i got there and played i was let down.So PES it is again now.4 years running.

Where’s my demo?

If this one is anything like Fifa 07 then it needs to be burned. The most exciting part of Fifa 07 was the ability to run around the title screen with Ronaldinho and pop shots at the keeper from 50 yards. PES08 for the title.
