Play Geometry Wars for free!

Three cheers for Kotaku! They found a freely downloadable version of the wonderful XBLA game Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved for the PC which they consider to be such a blatantly copyright infringing rip-off that Microsoft will have it shut down any moment now. In other words: if you want to have a try at this terrific game download it asap. And do pay for the original version on Xbox Live Arcade afterwards to get Stephen the cash he deserves alright?

I love the “aka”’s. “My version of…”

How do you play this on a computer? Mouse moves, keypad shoots? Or, you could just plug in a 360 controller, I suppose…

From the changelog file:

Controls:
——————————————————————————
Joystick - 8 directional digital fire/move + bomb + config
Dual Analog - 360 degree fire/move + bomb + config
Mouse - 360 degree move, LMB fire, RMB bomb (ESC key for config)
Keyboard - WASD move, LEFT/RIGHT/UP/DOWN fire, SPACE bomb, ESC config
Hybrid - Mouse fire/aim, WASD move, SPACE bomb

Are they serious? You’ve gotta be kiddin’ me.. I bought my console to play games on my tv in the living room chilling, not playing a game on my pc…. :’( Ideas like this make me cry (from laughing)

Hmm, none of those mouse/keyboard/hybrid controls are particularly intuitive. It’s a bit jerky on my computer here too (but that’s probably just the perils of trying to do this at work!!)
