NCAA Football 08 disk error plaguing Xbox 360 version

Problematic software is nothing new in the modern world of videogames, from abrupt freezes, render skipping, and infuriating crashes, but when such problems appear on Xbox 360 titles… well, current sentiment towards Microsoft’s console seems to merit the kind of reaction that would indicate the sky is all-but falling ahead of some kind of biblical catastrophe.

In this particular case, fans of college-sports football title NCAA Football 08, which was released in July by Electronic Arts, are having their run-and-catch enjoyment sullied by an inexplicable “This disk is unreadable” error that is rearing its ugly head on an annoyingly regular basis.

Gaming site Ripten.com points out that while NCAA Football 08 brings many perennial improvements to the gameplay pitch when measured against previous series offerings, there is simply, “no excuse,” for its lack of a mid-game save feature. Naturally, when factoring in the disk reading glitch, this particular content save discrepancy then leads to surging amounts of frustration for the player.

After repeated requests to “Clean the [brand new] disc with a soft cloth,” and “Restart the console,” a downtrodden and beleaguered ‘Darkhieser’ finally slammed the game case shut on NCAA Football 08 and returned it to retail supplier GameStop in favour of a store display replacement copy.

However, after three such visits and different copies of the game – all of which delivered the same disk error message – the Ripten writer then bought a brand new copy rather than settle for an open replacement; he also tried the new game in a different Xbox 360 console, probably to ensure his fracturing sanity. Sadly, the same error was returned regardless of either software or hardware.

While obviously an extremely patient and dedicated fan of the NCAA franchise, it would appear that Darkhieser’s favourite American Football game simply isn’t going to deliver this year, especially as a desperate call to developer EA Tiburon remains unanswered thus far.

NCAA Football is not the only game on the 360 that has been noted for doing this,” he comments, while asking readers to comment if they’ve experienced similar issues, “however it is frustrating that more research is not being done to remedy the problem.”

Honestly…I haven’t heard of this kind of behavour since, well…the Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic Mission glitch, back on the original Xbox. And I-myself have never experienced a problem like this with my Xbox 360 at all.

I had this problem many times with Colin McRea Dirt. Never seen it with any other game.

black, madden 07 and nba live 06 have all got disk unreadable, and they are in fine shape, and they are made by ea, hmm.

Don’t worry, EA is on top of this. You should all get a patch by June 2008.

Sounds about right EA is complete garbage and they show us yet again the qaulity they put out every year! Fuck you EA i hope you all burn in hell for robbing all your loyal customers every single year! Now if you dont mind i have more Mountain Dew gamer fuel to drink.. good day!

I had the same error on Dead Rising. I still cannot play the game. No one seemed to care then its a shame. Could you imagine the outrage if this issue hits Halo 3? That would be scary.

I’m so “glad” to see this article. I don’t have NCAA 08, but I have the exact same problem with NHL 2K8. I returned it once and the replacement had the same problem. Where do we turn for answers? Should EA/2K replace the discs for us? I don’t imagine they can patch it, can they?

if you ask me ea/2k should replace our disk…that wouldnt be 2 hard 2 do plus it would make me feel better about buyin another game of theirs if they actually offered support for these kind of things.

Doesn’t suprise me about the lack of response from EA. They shipped tiger woods 08 a with a bug that would freeze the game on a certain course and took over two weeks to fix it. But when you make as much money as they do I guess the little ol’ customers don’t really matter.

I’ve never had any problems with NCAA 08. The only problem I’ve had with a game freezing is MLB 2k6.♦

I had this problem with NCAA ‘08, and was very glad I had rented it instead of buying. It didn’t occur a lot, just enough to really make me mad (always happened in the 4th quarter).

I have had the issue since I bought the game and playtime was a hit or miss issue. Some games it would mess up, others it wouldn’t. Lately however, it has been literally impossible to make it through a full game. I’m surprised the menu screen still comes up.
