Today Ubisoft announced a new but unnamed game in the Tom Clancy universe. The new brand under which this game will come out is called Air Combat for the time being and it’s obviously going to revolve around flying in the air and shooting planes down, which is something we haven’t seen yet in previous Tom Clancy games. It’s being developed by the people at Ubisoft’s Bucharest studio who are responsible for the Blazing Angels games.

As with all Tom Clancy games, it’s based on a fictional story. This time there’s a private military force that’s become so big that it attacks the United States of America. Assuming the role of a brave pilot, players can now try to repel the enemy attacks. To make it slighty more realistic, you’ll engage the overwhelming enemy force with a new, powerful jet fighter that benefits from hi-tech pilot assistance, providing comfort, security and enhanced perception.

“Ubisoft has an unrivalled track record of creating and sustaining new brands,” said Serge Hascoet, chief creative officer at Ubisoft. “Our commitment to refreshing our catalogue with regular introduction of new IPs is what keeps gamers coming back for more. With this new brand we’re redefining the aerial combat genre and extending the Tom Clancy universe to deliver a compelling new action titles to next-generation gamers.”

“We are confident that this new brand will become the new benchmark for flight combat games and will be, like other Tom Clancy based games, an instant online multiplayer hit,” says Sebastien Delen, managing director of Ubisoft’s Bucharest studio. “The player will experience all the action and excitement of modern air combat, from intense dog fighting to tactical strikes.”

This unnamed title will be released on all next-gen consoles and PC somewhere in 2008.
