Tetris Splash falling on XBLA this Wednesday
Looking back at last week, Xbox Live Arcade enthusiasts didn’t get to add any new games to their growing library of casual titles as Microsoft broke the “new XBLA release every Wednesday” streak, and instead solely offered a price cut on select Arcade games. Starting anew, Microsoft has announced that Tetris Splash is scheduled to hit the service this Wednesday.
Originally sighted on the USK rating boards back in June, Tetris Splash is another first falling-blocks game to be made available for the XBLA. Due to its immense popularity and appeal, the gameplay is entirely self-explanatory. To freshen things up, the developer is adding a number of new features:
- Modes of play: Three different modes of play including Tetris, T-Spin, and Combo, plus a unique screensaver mode.
- Multiplayer: Playable solo, competitively or in teams, with an online multiplayer mode via Xbox LIVE® for up to six players.
- New twists: New, enhanced graphics, and beautiful aquatic backscapes add a real splash to the fun of Tetris.
- Content and themes: Exciting downloadable content will be made available including themes and background aquatic creatures.
- Achievements: Twelve new achievements to master and conquer.
Tetris Splash is set to release on the XBLA this Wednesday for 800 MSP.
Anyone looking forward to playing some Tetris in a few days?

I’ll play it, but bugger any new modes. Tetris is a classic and perfect in the way it already is. It doesn’t need to be faffed about with.
As long as there’s a basic mode, I’ll enjoy it.
Ehm, no, it’s not the first falling-blocks game on XBLA
Lumines is the first game with falling blocks, and even in Hexic are falling hexagons - and then there’s Marble Blast, with falling balls^^
800 POINTS?!?!?!!!!!??
no thanks, I’ll stick to my original gameboy version.
For 400 points this would be a “For sure” for me, but 800 is too steep a price for Tetris IMO.
Yeah sure… but whereas HD is an acronym for “High Definition” in terms of the graphics used to depict the Tetris action on a 360, it stands for “Hard to Discern” or “Horribly Dotty” on the Gameboy!
For me, the best ever edition of Tetris was the 1980’s Amiga gem called “Twintris”, which took the basic Tetris formula and shook it all up with two players battling it out - such that one players good moves created agro for the opposition. Hope one of the new 360 games multiplayer modes implements something similar - it made the game very frantic and replayable!
KultiVator
get tetris evolution. it has the same feature as twintris.
yeah, but I’ll sacrifice True HD, for gameboy’s “Horribly Dotted” as the gameboy version will allow me to play while on “The Throne” if ya dig?
Pooping + early nineties handheld technology = fun times.
In that case, if you’re getting your tetris fix whilst sitting on “the throne”, I definitely don’t want any 2-player action with you my friend!
Watch out when you play in the “little room”… if your turds tesselate as well as your Tetris blocks - you’ll be facing a nasty log-jam when it’s time to flush!
L O FUCKING L
800 = way too expensive for me…
im pretty sure that if they’d made it 400, at least the double amount of people would buy it, and with that theyd make a bigger profit, but who cares…
Yay! ..but can it be played with 2 people locally on the same machine?
Yes, you can even go up to four.
*sigh* still no SWOS…
This is getting Gahey.
Im pleased about this release. Im glad I only rented the other tetris because it wasn’t worthy of a retail game, was hoping for some xbla version
Yea 25% off garbage games doesnt excuse them from not releasing anything except Gaylo… They dont think about the people who think Halo is garbage, in return give us 25% off billiards whoopee-_-….A patch to Darkness would be nice…
Sonic and Bankshot Billiards are garbage? And where does it say they aren’t releasing anything?
Microsoft has no control over the patches released by the Darkness devs.
Sonic isn’t garbage considering it was Nintendo’s main rival to Mario back in the 16 bit era.
Bankshot Billiards on the other hand… while not rubbish by any stretch… its extremely overpriced, even at sale price. So yeah good game but the price just ain’t right.
I bought it for less on my cell phone. No thanks!
Wow! You must be making calls on a fucking brick.
Either that or you bought two plastic cups and a bit of string.
I can talk to him from my tree house across the street.
A patch for the darkness would be lovely, pity its not going to happen.
o ya didnt the creators’ company go out of business or somethin?
Yeah, 800 points is way too much for a game I am sure most of us have laying around in another format. I’ll pick it up when it’s 400 points
i got the gameboy version, the ipod version, the snes version, and the cell phone version, there is no need to pay 800 msp for this version
Is there any way to just remove the arcade blade from my dashboard? I really dont think I need one anymore since microsoft isnt interested in releasing any games for it.
Uh…first falling blocks game? You are forgetting Super Puzzle Fighter. Gah.
Is there any way to get Tetris Splash to fall off of XBLA???
