New Rock Band details
Think you know everything there is to know about EA’s upcoming rock rhtyhm title, Rock Band? If your answer is a resounding yes, you should think again, as a new wave of information has hit the rocky shores of the internet. Chatting away with TheBBPS.com, Harmonix’s PR representative recently wiped away the confusion surrounding the bundles to be available on the launch day, shed more light on the post-release DLC, and much more.
First of all, in case you have been planning to pick up only one peripheral when Rock Band ships on November 23rd, you’re out of luck, as Harmonix has confirmed that the game will be available in one and one bundle only. Reason, you might ask? Apparently, making the three peripherals available as standalone products right off the bat would prove too costly and retail stores across North America wouldn’t be exactly happy at the idea of having had to display four different packages at the same time. If $169.99 is simply too much for your wallet to handle, you’ll have to wait until early 2008 for the peripherals to be made available separately. Speaking of the price, here’s what the PR representative thinks of it:
$100 is asking quite a lot for just a guitar and a game, we think asking $70 more for the drums and microphone that change the experience is an amazing value.
Next, an explanation as to why the 360 bundle will feature a wired guitar instead of a wireless one was provided. According to the rep, in order to satisfy consumers as much as possible, Harmonix opted not to price the two next-gen versions differently. Since Microsoft demands a license fee for use of their proprietary wireless technology, Harmonix had no option but to include a wired guitar in the 360 bundle. For the record, standalone (wireless) guitars aren’t due out until early 2008.
Moving on, the Harmonix PR representative wasn’t ready to disclose whether or not the post-release downloadable content will be more affordable than the current infamous DLC for Activision’s Guitar Hero II:
I don’t know if I can say we’re cheaper or more expensive but remember, where as in other games they adjust the tracks for one or two guitars, in Rock Band it’s vocals, drums, guitar and bass on multiple difficulties. One thing we will do is give the gamer options. You can buy an album, or if you only want one or two tracks you can purchase those items separately.
Also worth noting is that Harmonix plans to release The Who’s Who’s Next album as soon as a week after the release of Rock Band, with more content to be made available every week leading up to the end of the year.
As for the number of tracks to be featured in the game, more than 40 but less than 50 songs are to be included on the disc, excluding the unlockable ones. Should you wish to read more about the game, check out the whole thing over here.
Rock Band is coming out in North America on November 23rd for the Xbox 360 and PS3, and December 17th for the PS2. Europeans will sadly have to wait until next year.

Err.. I thought we could get just one at a time, if not, forget it, I will be buying GHIII and I was just going to use my Guitar from that for Rock Band.
I think there making a bad move here, I won’t be buying it until the peripherals are stand alone.
I can’t afford it. I already bought GHII and I guess I’ll try out GHIII and Rock Band with my old GHII guitar.
I think they are shooting themselves in the foot here. I was thinking about giving this a shot, but not anymore. I will stick with GH3!!
I wanted the bundle with the drums only. I’m getting Guitar Hero 3. .and since I already have a guitar with Guitar Hero 2 - there is no need for another guitar (especially if wired)!! Rock Band is playing the we want $ game. They just won’t get any of mine until the peripherals come out separately. Sigh
83 pounds that translates to. Bargain. However, knowing the UK it’ll be more.
Me and two others are splitting money for this game, so its a bargain to us even if its 150 pounds.
I didn’t plan on buying this game… or GH3 for that matter…
but the entire Who’s Next album? i may have to look into this now…
“I don’t know if I can say we’re cheaper or more expensive but remember, where as in other games they adjust the tracks for one or two guitars, in Rock Band it’s vocals, drums, guitar and bass on multiple difficulties.”
Translation: it’s more expensive.
Too bad. But it doesnt really matter to me since I have to wait for it to be released in Europe. Ill just wait till I can buy drums, guitar, microphone seperatly.
What I got out of this:
Activision is probably overcharging for every single version of Guitar Hero 3, because they have to price the 360 version higher, and figured people are too dumb to figure it out.
Anyways, quite frankly, I have low hopes for Guitar Hero 3. I don’t trust Neversoft, and the current song selection sounds really poor, for the most part.
Rock Band’s, so far, isn’t exactly stellar, but it sure as hell seems a lot better than GH3’s.
What’s with releasing DLC a week after the game is released as well? I’m guessing that the albums that they are releasing would have been available to the programmers before release, yet they haven’t been included in the full release of the game. Smells like another rip off to me.
