New Saints Row 2 shots and scans
Checking the old inbox today revealed that someone random had dumped some fresh scans from a German magazine named GamePro in the tray. It’s all in German, but the anonymous tipster also included some translations, which was jolly kind of him. Hit the jump for all the gossip.
In bullet point form then, here’s the best bits from the article:
- The game is set fifteen years after the original, and many areas have changed
- Planes and boats will be needed to access some areas
- There are now helicopters too
- The graphics have been improved, with no more pop-ups as you stroll around
- The weather effects are “impressive”, such as heat effects, rain and so on
- When it rains, pedestrians get their umbrellas out
- Other characters can be used as human shields
- If you are being chased, you can shoot your pursuer in the nether-regions. He will fall to the floor, and other pedestrians will gather round to check on him, thus meaning you can get away that much easier
- The “Freak Generator” is the internal name for the new clothing palettes. Every character in the game can now be customised, so your bros and hoes can be clad out in anything you like
- The developers have listened to the wants of fans, and will now include “mini-achievements” for special stunts that occur
- You can use limpet mines on cars, walls and even the backs of your enemies
- If you decide to car surf this time around, you’ll need to maintain your balance with the analog stick
- THQ want to give Volition enough time to finish the game this time around, so no rushing it out onto store shelves here. With GTA IV on the way, it needs to be damn good
- There will now be a co-op mode, by Xbox Live or a local network
- The boxout on image four talks of the ability to upgrade and improve the place where you’ll be living
It seems the developers are hard at work trying to get the game to be as good as GTA IV, as the two games will be going head to head at some point next year. It will definitely be an interesting battle, and a very bold move on THQ’s part to decide to release SR 2 next year, but competition is no bad thing. Anyone excited by all this?

Can’t wait it looks amazing. Only real faults of original were the city (too small) and the vehicles (not enough variation). fix those two things and we’re looing at contender for best game ever!!! as for the controls being dodgey…i thought they murked GTA simply in the shooting alone.

I really liked the first one. A few graphical issues, but it was fun. It kept you on the edge of your seat, waiting for your character to say a single word.
Good that there will be online co-op

After that only played Vice city. It was ok but quickly was boring to me.

SR was technically amazing with a state of the light and shadow engine.
The sound design was killer. The art style was perfect for the game.
The graphics overall were awesome. The vechicles were a blast and the weapons were better than most games.
Sure the multi play wasn’t the best but after the patch it was playable.
Even the sound track had something for everyone. So yeah… I played it. It rocked like Sabbath!
So the game was “Shit” because why?…..

Ok, its a huge GTA rip off, down to a tea. Soundtrack?? Gimme a break, the graphics although sharp were not very detailed in some areas.
The controls were simply…atrocious
Multiplayer was an add on, that never flourished, and needed a patch to improve an unfinished aspect.

Saying it’s a GTA ripoff is like saying unreal is a quake ripoff… it’s the same GENRE, that’s all.
Graphics were better than I’ve seen in any GTA so far…
Control scheme A was a mess, putting it to control scheme B or C cleared that up fine.
I don’t give a rat’s ass about multiplayer, if I had the option to buy just the single player game that would be it.

okay the shootng in gta was a self locking setup where as saints row you could freely move the sights with right stick and then running and driving were also very good control so where the hell do you get atrocious controls. hell razor did you ever actualy play saints row???
Hell yeah! I’ve only just finished the storyline in SR1, it took me a loooong loooong time… I’ve never got so much fun and gameplay out of one game and I still have to do most of the side missions, I’m only at 63%
I like GTA a lot but had more FUN with SR.

I find GTA games to be very veyr good, but Saints Row is on a par with it in my book for the way they made every mission progressively more excting. You’d never get a boring mission, none of this “Pick up big smoke then drive him to the shops” type stuff.
Either way, I’m buying both next year!

lol why are people even posting on this who dont like saints row even posting on here? i think over all it wasnt quite as good as san andreas, but anyone who liked san andreas or any of the other gta’s should like it, unless of course you havent actually played the game… it improved on gta in some areas but failed in others, sr 2 will prolly put them right. you know, this looks great but Ive noticed something not good….
I know its a small detail but an important one, If you look in the picture with all the cop cars, you see that there is a number “49″ on each of them, the first one had cop cars numbered “00″-”‘99″ and I hope that Saints Row 2 wont have them all the same number, becasue tat means the etail wont be as good. I just hope its like that only because of the picture, and wont be like that when the actual game comes out, becasue I want the second one to be twice as good, and if it is, SR2 will kick ass!

Saints row 2 is going to blow gta4 out of the water since the sweet revenge storyline and insane customization on gangs, cribs, and of course vehicles is just too cool. I can’t imagine how gta4 will stack up to this!! (And especially since saints row 2 will get planes, boats, and motorcycles now which was one of saints rows biggest cons for me.)

Both games have different aspects of them that make different people like one and not the other, and sometimes both. Personally, I liked Saints Row better because in GTA the only thing that would pass as fun was killing random people for 10 minutes. Saints Row had a story that I would actually play all the way through, after that there were activities to do and things to buy. You could actually make a character to your liking and it will be much, Much more in depth in the second Saints Row. After you complete the game, it provided more then 10 minutes of random killing satisfaction and enough replayability to erase my save and start a new one.
I don’t think GTA goes for the little things that make gameplay fun as much as they try and go for things like a “perfect” storyline and things for perverts like hot coffee and hookers.

GTA finaly has some one to battle, and a good battle it will be, saints row 1 in my eyes has beaten what GTA have done so far and GTA IV will have to be good to win, with both games coming out this year i cant wait but as it stands GTA will not be a game i will be buying, saints row 2 is gunna be the game for me, GTA been doing this years and really they should win but i dout they will saints row bring a better story line good online play with some hick ups ofc and with all the new stuff coming in saints row 2 its gunna be hard to beat.

Aint Nothin wrong with liking both. I Like GTA and Saints Row. SR Was my first Xbox 360 game.. From 3 years ago and i cant wait for the sequal coming out tommarrow. GTA San Andreas was my favorite game for years. I still like it. And I like GTA IV For its Brilliant driving, the car physics are Unbelievably amazingly good. Reminds me of the old game Driver. (Which I liked)
