E4 & Speedball 2 this Wednesday; Lumines price cut & DLC
This week is set to be great if you enjoy Xbox Live Arcade games. Not only are two XBLA games, Every Extend Extra Extreme and Speedball 2: Brutal Deluxe, being released, but the highly popular Arcade puzzle game Lumines Live! will receive a much needed price cut. Still not stopping there, however, some brand new DLC for Lumines Live! will hit the Marketplace, some of which will be free. Finally, Activision announced this week that they are developing games for the Arcade that are set to launch this Christmas.
The first Xbox Live Arcade game that will be available this week is E4. The game is an action-packed shooter developed by Q Entertainment. The game still hasn’t been rated, it will be released on Wednesday for 800 Microsoft Points, and it bears a strong resemblance to Geometry Wars. Here is a description of the game and a list of features, too.
The latest creation by Q Entertainment, Every Extend Extra Extreme (E4) is a unique action-packed shooter. Time your self-destruction perfectly, create chain reactions by exploding enemies, and extend the game life. Enjoy a trippy, trancey clubbing experience through the combination of highly addictive gameplay, music, and sharp visuals. E4 features five exciting game modes as you collect bonus items and detonate your craft to the beat to multiply your scores.
- Wildly fun gameplay: Unique, fun, addictive gameplay mixed with hip and cool original music offers a club-like experience in the living room.
- Next-gen challenge and graphics: Outrageous visuals and high-quality sound add to the richness of the gameplay. There are a hundred times more enemies, a hundred times more chain reactions, and a stylish collection of newly designed visualizers all exploding in high definition with 5.1 surround sound support.
- Multiple game modes: Play E4 The Game Unlimited, a reverse action-shooter where the goal is to self-destruct, create large chain reactions of explosions by defeating enemies, and extend the life of the game by collecting the items they leave behind. Other game modes include E4 The Game Limited, that challenges with a Time Attack version of the main mode. Take on R4 The Revenge, a genuine shooter with up to 100 stages. And go head to head in H4 Versus Live, against other players on Xbox LIVE.
- Your own music: Add your own music in the S4 Wiz Ur Muzik mode. Enjoy a customized E4 gameplay experience by adding your own tracks and playing to your favorite music.
The second XBLA game this week is, as we already knew since last week, Speedball 2: Brutal Deluxe. After being delayed in August, the game will finally be released on Wednesday for the price of 800 Microsoft Points. The game has been E for Everyone, and here is a description of the game and a list of features.
In the year 2326, rival gangs form an ultra-violent streetsports league called Speedball to settle their deadly disputes. Get your steel ball into the opponent’s goal. That’s it, there are no other rules, and anything goes. The sport becomes quite popular, but it is also extremely dangerous. Ten years later, Speedball becomes the national sport with sponsors, professional teams, and insanely brutal action.
Now, the Bitmap Brothers and Empire Interactive bring you the legendary futuristic sports game Speedball 2: Brutal Deluxe completely remastered for Xbox LIVE Arcade. Play the fast-paced and utterly brutal game with its classic 2-D graphics, or go full on with the new super-enhanced high definition 3-D visuals. Smash your way to the top of the league in the solo game or go head to head locally or on Xbox LIVE. The game features 32 teams, 4 leagues, cup and knockout competitions, team enhancements, management and training options, and Ranked Preset or Ranked Career games.
- Updated classic: Speedball 2: Brutal Deluxe brings you both the original version with its violently fast action and 2-D graphics, and the exciting new high-def enhanced 3-D graphics for players and arenas.
- Multiplayer mode: Win as many professional matches as you can, join the upper leagues, and unlock new content in the online store. Play locally or on Xbox LIVE. Compete head to head in friendly or ranked matches.
- Expanded gameplay: The solo game includes 32 teams, league championship, cup and knockout competitions.
- Management options: Use your management skills to train your players or buy star players as you mount your challenge for the championship.
Fans of the highly addictive puzzle game Lumines Live! may be interested to learn about the new DLC that will be released this Wednesday. From October 17 until November 14, two Skins entitled Heavenly Star and Breeze will be free for all Xbox Live Gold members. As well as this, the Rockin’ Holiday Pack will be released and will cost 400 Microsoft Points. Best of all, however, is that the cost of standard edition of the game will be cut from 1200 Microsoft Points to 800 Microsoft Points permanently. While this will delight anyone who hasn’t bought the game yet, anybody who has bought it will not be too happy.
Finally, it has been revealed that Activision is working on some XBLA games that are set to be released during the Christmas season. While there is no information available on these games at the moment, some details will surely emerge as it gets closer to the time.

3 new Guitar Hero 2 songs have just appeared on Marketplace too. Priced at 200 MSP each, that makes them even more expensive than the earlier packs (3 songs for 500MSP total)
WOW, simply WOW. I think they are doing this on purpose to show us that the 500MSP price structure is actually a bargain. I wonder who would be stupid enough to pay close to $10 for 3 songs, when you can purchase GHIII in one week and get about 70 songs for just over $60 (without the guitar that is).
Ive given up on Lumines. My own opinion now is that it just should have been a retail game with as much content as possible crammed on one disk for ÂŁ30 and be done with it.
I just bought Lumines and all its DLC just last weds,
Damn, that sucks so much for you.
It sucks more for AugustusButt - he’s got a PS3, so there’s precious little in the way of game software for him to agonise over the important decisions in life… like which title to buy next - and whether it’s actually worth it.
Never mind, he’ll soon be able to play in Sony’s virtual reality alternative to Xbox Live Marketplace - *the* diversion needed to help Son’y customers forget that they bought the PS3 to play exciting, cutting-edge, next generation games, rather than have some naff avatar represent their sad little life in some virtual cafe/shopping mall/pub/open-air recreation area.
Each to their own I guess… but for me, I like the sound of E4 and really can’t to see how SpeedBall2 has been reworked into HD / 3D.
The sprites have been reworked into 3D Models and the arenas have been revamped also. This title is pure video game crack.
