New third party arcade sticks released

With the latest news about Street Fighter HD giving everyone a cheap thrill, it would no doubt have crossed the brain of many that a decent arcade stick would be most useful. Thankfully, there is now the choice to pick and choose which one suits you, as “Arcade-In-A-Box” have released a few options for the Xbox Live Arcade fanatics out there.

There’s the option of a single or dual arcade layout, so if you have a friend or sibling who also love the Arcade then the double stick option is the best for you. They are also compatible with a Windows PC, if you bat for the other side. Says Ed Farias, Owner of Arcade-In-A-Box:

“Xbox 360 gamers have a wide variety of classic arcade games to play, but until now there hasn’t been a high-quality, stick with the authentic controls that hard core gamers demand. Our goal was to design and deliver a product for the gamer who wanted the most elite, most authentic, and most thrilling Xbox 360 arcade experience possible.”

There’s a handy feature list as well for some easy reading:

  • 15″ L x 10″ D x 4.5″ H
  • Authentic Arcade Buttons and Joysticks
  • Optional Custom Overlay
  • You choose the colors for T-molding, buttons and joystick D-Pad, A, B, X, Y, RB, LB, Start, Back, and Guide buttons are included
  • Optional Headset Jack
  • Wired USB controller means it’s also compatible with Windows XP and Vista
  • Constructed with 3/4 black melamine coated wood to give that authentic arcade weight and feel
  • Optional joystick upgrade to the Mag-Stik Plus or Sanwa JLF
  • Your choice of button types, either Concave or Convex

The prices are perhaps slightly steep for some, with a single-Player board costing $149, and a dual-Player board costing $299, however they look like a quality build and will no doubt fill the hole for Arcade players.

You can check out the single stick setup here, and the dual player setup here. Let us know what you think of these.

what a joke, why would you pay 150 bucks for a controller for a $10 game

$150 & $300!!!! Are they actually planning on these things selling? Or where they just going for shelf ornaments…

One alternative is a site like this: http://arcadecontrols.com/
If you don’t have two left hands it could be worth a look.
I have no idea how much a custom, home built controller would cost, but perhaps it’s cheaper, and obviously you can make it even better suited for whatever personal needs you have.

Another waste of time “arcade” stick. The joysticks are analogue. What we need is a proper digital stick for the retro games. A stick that directly replaces the D-Pad. All these “arcade” sticks are just the 360 controller in a different box. And this particular example isn’t even compatible with the 360 headset. How daft is that?

What makes you think they are analogue? Trust me, the Sanwa JLF joysticks are digital. I built myself an aracde stick for the 360 about 6 months ago and the parts alone cost me £50 (about $90-100). That’s without considering the time I spent making the case, soldering and fitting everything together. These aren’t too bad an alternative if you’re lazy.

soldering sucks especially if its to attach a 360 to a compter monitor
