Rock Band supplies won’t meet demand

In a conference call discussing Q2 2008 earnings, EA CEO John Riccitiello said that Ea would not be able to meet the demand for Rock Band this holiday season, and even into next year. If you’re planning on waiting to pick it up after the day it releases, you just might be out of luck.

Riccitiello had this to say

If I were you, on the 19th of November I would get in line outside of your favorite retailer,” Riccitiello told investors. “We’ve got a lot of inventory coming, and my expectation is it will sell through…This is definitely not a sprint. We’re not going to be able to put enough inventory to meet demand in North America and Europe this calendar year or this fiscal [year]

For reference, EA’s fiscal year doesn’t end until March 2008. Riccitiello also stated that unless you pick up the game on launch day, the only sure fire way to pick one up would be to have a friend at one of their retailers. Stop reading now and go pre-order your copy today!

Is this game going to cost as much as let’s say a Wii? Will there be a pack with a usb microphone, drums and two guitars?

1) It’s gonna set you back $170 (you’re not American though so could be more/less in Europe; I know you’re Belgian :P), so that’s $80 less than what a Wii costs.

2) There’ll be a big bundle with one mic, one drum set, and one guitar (not two).

I believe it’s one mic, one set of drums, and one guitar.

Already pre-ordered. I will be watching Ebay prices after I get the game. I will have no problems selling this puppy for a nice profit and playing anyone of my other 120+ games that I have laying around.

wth, how are you supposed to have a full “rock band” unless you buy a second guitar separately? i want to play this game so bad but geez, how are we supposed to afford it?

most people buying rockband probably have a ghII or III guitar lying around :/

and you point? I dont think GHII Guitar will work with it.. doesnt RB have more buttons?

The GH II Xplorer works just fine with Rock Band (as it does with GH II and GH III). The only downside is that you can’t activate any of the extra guitar effects included in Rock Band; only the Rock Band Stratocaster can activate those.

I call BS. I bet this game is on shelves for anyone willing to waste their money.

I can’t count the number of times I’ve heard “you’ll have to preorder this”…only to see it available everywhere. It’s marketing hype. Create the illusion of demand in hopes of boosting preorders.

While what you say is true for most software. (I’m talking game discs alone) Rock Band falls more into the category of hardware. Manfacturing up a console or a bunch of unique takes a lot more time and effort than just mass producing game discs does.

While a statement like this is probably a slight marketing ploy. I’m betting that rock band will be as scarce as Wii’s were last christmas.

Also, people would only be “wasting” their money if they did not enjoy their purchase. For me it will be a hundred and sixty well spent.

I bet there will be units on the shelves come January, why wouldn’t you make as many as humanly possible and just hold stock? Its BS. Did Halo sell out? No, because they knew that they would be able to shift millions they made millions. If they honestly have supply shortage then they’re all dumb as fuck.
