Rock Band goes Gold; new tracks uncovered
Electronic Arts and Harmonix were today pleased to announce that their hotly anticipated music videogame, Rock Band, has reached the end of the development and is now in final production and manufacturing. On a related note, Joystiq has got the scoop on eight previously unknown tracks featured in the game.
Alongside the official announcement, EA was kind enough to include a bevy of details on the Rock Band Special Edition Bundle, revealing, amongst other things, that a standalone version of the game will be made available right off the bat.
- The Xbox 360 version of the Rock Band Special Edition Bundle will feature a wired drum kit, microphone and Fender Stratocaster guitar controller as well as a USB hub for easy plug-in access for all instruments.
- Suggested retail pricing for standalone Rock Band software for Xbox 360 and PLAYSTATION 3 system versions will be $59.99.
- Standalone instrument peripherals for Rock Band, including a wireless guitar option for the Xbox 360, will be available at a later date to be announced.
- The standalone Rock Band software will support a variety of 3rd-party instrument peripherals as well as enable owners to share peripherals with those who own the Special Edition bundle.
Moving on, a keen-eyed tipster has alerted Joystiq’s attention to a recent 1UP video preview, in which Rock Band’s song list is shown for a brief period. Hiding in the throng of the previously announced tracks, there were seven songs that stood out (categorized by difficulty):
Apprentice
- The Konks “29 Fingers”
- Vagiant “Seven”
Solid Songs
- Flyleaf “I’m So Sick”
- The Mother Hips “Time We Had”
Moderate Songs
- Anarchy Club “Blood Doll”
- The Acro-Brat “Day Late, Dollar Short”
- Crooked X “Nightmare”
As for the eighth new song, Honest Bob and the Factory-to-Dealer Incentives has proudly announced on their blog that their song “I Get By” from the album Second & Eighteen will be featured in the game. This brings the total number of known tracks to 53, with five more unlockable ones left to be announced.
Rock Band is set to come out in North America on November 20th for both Xbox 360 and PS3. Europe will sadly have to wait until early next year.

cool
Not a chance of buying it until there is a wireless guitar. But when there is this is a must purchase.
I can not believe there is no wireless guitar yet!! All the instruments MUST have a wireless option.
OH NOES!
THE WORLD IS GOING TO END!
Rock Band doesnt come with a wireless guitar!
If i was on your horse… I would surely get vertigo.
Jesus man, GET A GRIP!
Yeah, I played the demo at best buy … somebody already broke the drum kit … I think I’m going to wait until next year to buy it (that way I can save money for COD4)
So can I play this game with my GH2 and GH3 guitars right…. I heard that there are “special” buttons on a Rock Band guitar… that you wouldn’t be able to activate with a guitar hero guitar. Any truth to that?
Yep, that is true. What I don’t know is how important or how integrated the special guitar effects are … maybe, they’re just a gimmick.
I played the demo and you really need the rock band guitar. There is an entire set of buttons you use to “solo”, and you can’t do it with the wireless les paul for 360. We tried it at best buy. Gay sauce.
*baloon of hope deflates*
sorry
rock band is really overpriced for all that shit i dont want like everything but the microphone. i know i cant sing and i sure as hell ont want to hear anyone else try other than the bands on the game
I think I will wait for the reviews - I want GH3 and Rock band but I think perhaps time will prevail as the most apt judge here. Nobody wants to stuck with a lemon.
Is it me or is the lineup of RockBand not as impressive as the one of Guitar Hero III?
Nope, not just you, it’s much worse. A good chunk of the songs I’ve never even heard of, and many others I’d have absolutely no interest in playing.
To me RB seems like 4 average games packed into one as opposed to 1 good game. The only reason I’m even thinking about RB is because it has drums, but I have no interest in doing vocals or bass guitar, yet I’ll be paying for those options.
Will see, as it stands now though I’m having a blast with the GH3 demo and will likely pick it up (which is surprising as I never liked these kind of games before).
I’m still not impressed with Rock Bands lousy sound list. I mean come on MTV should be able to get better than this. GH3 songs are so much better.
