Rock Band DLC priced; goes on sale early

With Rock Band less than a week away from its anticipated November 20 release, Harmonix has finally blown the lid off their plans for the game’s first wave of downloadable content, replete with pricing and dates. Additionally, reports are running wild that Wal-Mart has broken the street date.

First things first; it seems the Guitar Hero DLC-related ruckus has been brought to EA’s attention, as gamers won’t be asked to cough up an arm and a leg for a couple of songs. As opposed to Guitar Hero’s favored 500 MSP price point, a three-song pack for Rock Band will set you back 440 MSP, along with the choice of buying the songs separately. Tracks that will be made available individually will come in at different prices, ranging from 80 MSP to 240 MSP. There was no word on the pricing and release date for the promised full-album releases.

Harmonix also compiled a lengthy list of downloadable content expected to release in the first five weeks after Rock Band’s release:

Lastly, GameRush reports that several Wal-Mart outlets in the US have broken the game’s November 20 street date. One of the lucky customers let the world know about his early purchase on the official forums, followed by Harmonix editing the post and locking the thread. The developer also noted that any Rock Band Special Edition found selling on eBay beforehand was actually a demo unit and not the full-blown retail version of the game:

These demo builds are kind of hobbled - for one the drums don’t have kick pedals. Some of the demos don’t have mics. And the build isn’t a full-real retail version of the game. It is hobbled a bit and, obviously, the bass drum autoplays since there is no pedal that comes with the demo.

There you go. Rock Band is set for a US release on November 20th for the Xbox 360 and PS3.

The local Hastings here started selling them exactly a week ahead of the release date. I saw the game only packages, but I didn’t see any with the peripherals.

Now we kow where all the good songs are for Rock Band. Pay $170 for crappy songs and then spend another $60 to $70 for the good stuff. Plus 440msp is only 60 points less the the GH packs. That’s not much difference. I’ll probably still pick this up one day but the songs on the disc could have been a lot better.
