Asteroids hit the XBLA

Witty titles aside, the Xbox Live Arcade has today been landed with a new game, one that is actually a decent deal for once. Asteroids and Asteroids Deluxe are now available, and thanks to them being bundled together, you get two games for the price of one.

Courtesy of Major Nelson:

  • Content: ATARI ASTEROIDS/ASTEROIDS DELUXE
  • Price: 400 Microsoft Points
  • Availability: Not available in Australia, Asian New Zealand or Mexico
  • Dash Text: [ESRB: E (EVERYONE)] Single Player, HD (High Definition). Thrust through space blasting a path for survival. There are no refunds for this item. For more information, see www.xbox.com/Live/accounts.

Don’t worry about getting the trial stuck on your Gamertag, that might be being fixed rather soon. Let us know how you find this.

Is it just me or do other people prefer the original vector graphics over the cram as many particles as possible onto the screen enhanced version?

thats the problem with most remeakes. this is another example of shitting up a good classic.

Not necessarily. There are good remakes that improve on the classics. Back in the day, Ambrosia software made “Maelstrom” for the Macintosh, a plenty-awesome reworking of Asteroids (mainly with sprite graphics & powerups). Powerups go a long way to making stuff like Asteroids more fun.
