New Speedball II content coming soon

Anyone enjoying the classic that is Speedball II, released back in October from The Bitmap Brothers, will be delighted to know that there is fresh content planned in the run up to Christmas and beyond. We had a theme last week, now we have new content today, with promises of more soon.

Here’s what has been (in case you missed it), and what to expect:

  • Theme Pack - 31st October 2007
  • Arena Pack - 7th November 2007
  • Gamer Pics 1 - 14th November 2007
  • Super Star Players - 28th November 2007
  • Team Strips Pack - 12th December 2007
  • Gamer Pics 2 - 9th January 2008

This week’s content features four new downloadable 3D Arenas, each with three variants, giving players even more customisable options. Mike Montgomery, of developers Bitmap Brothers commented:

“The extra content, and in particular the arenas, players and strips, dramatically enhance game play and make a real contribution to making Speedball II: Brutal Deluxe the definitive package.”

Sadly no pricing details have been revealed, although today’s pack is available for 150 MS Points. Hopefully other DLC for Speedball II will follow this. Only time will tell…

Sadly, the 3D arenas are for the weaker of the two play modes in Speedball2.

The game plays better in traditional 2D mode… although even that mode plays a little more stodgily (is that a real word?) than the Amiga original.

This conversion is so close to the original that the few little differences are quite jarring… as you can see the potential was there for this to be really great.

I really need to get back into this. Upon release I was playing the League mode but then Assassins Creed and Mass Effect arrived.

I play in 2D mode though. The 3D additions just don’t do it for me and the player models seem to occupy more space (which is normal anyway), so I switched it off right away.
