Race Driver One renamed; new screenshots

As revealed in the title, the up-and-coming addition to Codemasters’ Race Driver franchise has been given a full and official name, one that is along the lines of Codies’ other racing game, Colin McRae: DiRT. Previously known as Race Driver One, the new Neon engine-powered racing title is now called Race Driver: GRID (just GRID in North America). Alongside the announcement, the publisher has also let loose a set of new screenshots.

Unlike the previous installments in the series, Race Driver: GRID will offer a number of beautifully rendered and exciting race locations spanning across Europe, the United States, and Japan. Selecting from a garage of new, classic, circuit, and drift race cars, players will not only compete in official race tracks and championships as in the previous titles, but also in various other race events, like city-based competitions and urban street races. On top of that, the game will sport some breathtaking visuals which should make the overall racing experience all the more exhilarating.

With the developer behind Colin McRae: DiRT at the helm, Race Driver: GRID seems to be in good hands and will hopefully deliver a solid racing affair when it releases in mid 2008 for the Xbox 360, PS3, and PC.

Definetly looks good but whether or not it plays good remains to be decided.

Looks like the best graphics I’ve seen in a racing game yet. Lets hope it turns out that way.

This is the same engine that’s used for DiRT. I saw in a interview somewhere that it also features the same damage model as in DiRT.

As long as there isn’t any nitro or drifting required I’m sold!

If it plays like DiRT, im definetly not gonna buy this coz even DiRT looked nice, it was horrible to drive/play. If it looks like this and drives like Forza2, then its a must have. Hope it have 60fps rather than 30…
