Yes, he was part of punk history. But I’m sorry, without the likes of Black Flag, New York Dolls and the Ramones among others, this genre would’ve never got anywhere.

The SexPistols, and Johnny Rotten by extension, made a name for themsleves for swearing on national tv, and exposing themselves at their live shows. They were there to shock first, and play music second.

‘Punks’ of the 70’s are no different in my mind than the ghetto fabulous ‘gangsters’ of today’s hip hop music world. Its all an image mu. Nothing more, nothing less.

and yes, considering that being obnoxious, foul mouthed and full of yourself is what brought Johnny to fame, its completedly predictable that this happened.

but look, we’re all talking about it. From the organizers POV, this must be seen as a success (even though he blasted the very product he was there to promote). Bad casting job.
