100,000 MS Point Bomberman tournament hits Xbox Live

If converting cash to Microsoft Points in order to feed a clawing Xbox Live addiction is something you wish you could take leave of – at least temporarily – then perhaps Hudson Soft has just what you’re looking for in the shape of its Bomberman Live tournament.

Specifically, Hudson Entertainment, the North American publishing arm of Hudson Soft, has recently unveiled its ‘Bomberman LIVE New Year’s Bash Tournament & Sweepstakes,’ which will see one lucky winner walking away with a hefty 100,000 Microsoft Points.

Registration for the event opened on December 31, 2007, and ends on January 13, 2008. Sadly, however, the opportunity to participate in Hudson’s tantalising 100,000 Microsoft Points giveaway is only open to United States residents (insert regional booing noises here).

The Bomberman LIVE event will see players frantically dropping bombs with “reckless abandon” as they compete to amass the most frags via the wittily named ‘Weekly Ranked Friendly Fire Leaderboard,’ which preserves performance stats for the online game’s new ‘Friendly Fire’ mode.

Those wishing to take part in the tournament and stand a chance of scooping the top prize will first need to download the new game mode via the Bomberman ‘Bomb-Up Pack 3’ add-on, which can be found on the Xbox Live Marketplace.

Those ready and able to get their explosive groove on can do so this coming Sunday (January 06) when the tournament officially begins. Proceedings will come to a close on January 13. Beyond the draw of the tournament itself, those registering for participation will also be automatically entered into the Bomberman LIVE New Year’s Bash Sweepstakes too. So, it’s win-win really, no?

John Greiner, President and CEO of Hudson Entertainment has outlined that the company’s goal is to bring Bomberman and its “fantastic gameplay” to a much wider audience in 2008. Starting the year with the Xbox Live tournament and sweepstakes, the publisher will then turn to new Bomberman Land releases inbound for the Nintendo Wii, DS, and PlayStation Portable.

The Bomberman Live New Year’s Bash Tournament & Sweepstakes registration page can be accessed by clicking HERE.

People do play Bomberman Live. There’s always people playing it. I will buy the pack 3 tomorrow and sign up. 100,000 points would be sweet. I’ve been playing Bomberman since it was created.

Because they don’t realise that there is a world outside of America (World series anyone?). It’s not their fault it’s the way they’re brought up. Anyway, more importantly, how can you have live tournaments when live is so royaly screwed at the moment? Also, why is there no mention at all of that fact on Xboxic?

Comment by MoD_Gunslinger on 2008-01-03 10:32:25 | Reply

I submitted new about Live acting up, I guess they didn’t find it interesting?

Comment by Clay on 2008-01-03 11:19:25 | Reply

An outage over the busiest gaming week of the year with disruptions to everyone I’ve talked to (when I actually did get online). Not to mention how it looks to new console owners who bought a 360 on the strength of the live service and they didn’t find it worth posting??? This is supposed to be an informational site and they missed that one completely? Well done!

Don’t worry mate, nobody is crying about not being American. We’re quite happy about that fact. Now, take a seat and have a sip of tea and calm down before you bust a blood vessel. Was it American design that brought us the RROD feature set then? If so, ta.

Indeed it was. This is the state of consumerism in the world today: make things to be broken.

Of course it is. It’s manufactured by one of the richest corporations in the world and 75% of the games in its library have guns in them. =P Christ, there’s going to be a -mechanical bull-riding game- for it.

Comment by BleedingEyes on 2008-01-05 02:30:41 | Reply

Who went where? To put it in perspective; the entire population of the USA (except for the native Indians living in supression) is actually one big pile of “illegal” immigrants trying to get the world to shut up or put up.

Can’t really say I’m that impressed hence the fact that almost all over the world there are people not bowing to those puppets like Bush and Reagan.

Ow, happy 2008!

Claimate change caused solely by man = Myth

God = Not completely disproveable by 100% but highly improbable given the facts

Evolution/Natural Selection Humans from Monkeys = Hell of a lot more going for that theory than your big beardy man in the sky.

I apologise, i abhore religion and everything it stands for.

Comment by The_Glovner on 2008-01-04 23:24:49 | Reply

hmmmmmm, I will agree to a point, but when the beliefs encroach on others well being and effectively stunt the overall growth of human race then there is an issue with different beliefs, especially if almost all available facts point towards the belief being false.

Comment by Lone Goat on 2008-01-07 18:52:13 | Reply

“when the beliefs encroach on others well being”

like a few towelheads? & a few nut job pastors then yes.

“especially if almost all available facts point towards the belief being false.”

last time i check “Evolution” was still a theory..

i unstand if u “abhore religion and everything it stands for.” there is ALOT of BS in churchs theis days…. but (just like the towelheads) theres allways some bad apples in every Religion.

Comment by The_Glovner on 2008-01-07 21:47:47 | Reply

Evouloution may be still only be a theory, but still a far more credible theroy than intelligent design from a supreme being which really offers no basis in fact whatsoever.

But at the end of the day it’s an argument which can never be won as the theologist always has the saftey net of blind faith on his side.

Comment by The_Glovner on 2008-01-08 14:44:51 | Reply

And as for it being a few “towel-heads” (your words not mine) or crazy pastors i’m afriad that isn’t the problem.

The problem is real scientific discovery being held back by creationists that have no credible fact to back up their point of view.

Then they have the cheek to lobby schools to tell them they should teach creationism alongside evolution like it for one second even holds the same credibility (by the way it doesn’t).

You really don’t want to get me started on this subject as it’s one I have spent a lot of time on and can pretty much destroy any argument a pro-religious group wants to through at me, and I will disprove it with fact and logic rather than blind faith and fear.

facts yes,,, what i’ve been thou… no. you call it blind faith… you havn’t walked in my shoes.. and i havn’t walked in yours. i’m not trying to fear you (or otherwise) in to becoming a chirstian.. it sounded like you were attackin the church (some should be) i was only sayin let believe what they wish to believe.

“Then they have the cheek to lobby schools to tell them they should teach creationism alongside evolution like it for one second even holds the same credibility (by the way it doesn’t).”

they fight the schools b/c they don’t want there kids being told something they belivie is BS. just like how u don’t want creationism in the schools.

Comment by The_Glovner on 2008-01-10 15:08:58 | Reply

Its a fair point, but to teach other people something because someone is mislead into believing it (no personal attack on you if thats you thing, but like you we are both entitled to our point of view, one thing I can commend you on is the fact that you can actually put some thought into the discussion and not just stick your fingers in your ears like most theologists) isn’t the right way to go.

Unless factual evidence can be attributed to something then it remains not to be factual. No factual evidence can be given to creationism, however there are many facts to back up evolution.

Religion to me is the easy way out in the search for advancing our knowledge.

e.g

How did we get here?

Thats a complicated question, and to answer would would take a lot of investigation and time but instead of doing that and seaking the truth with evidence to back it up, lets just take the easy way out. God did it and becuase he did it then there is no way for our feeble minds to understand it so we shouldn’t even bother to investigate further and just put it all down to the big man.

Now please don’t take what I say here as an attack on your personally, I don’t even know what your thoughts on God are. The one I have a problem with is the God of the Bible which so many Americans seem to believe word for word as a factual document of history. When if there is any truth in them (bearing in mind the only books of the Bible put out there as the real deal was written 300 years after the supposed death of Jesus so no gospel even offers an eye witness account, yet we are to believe it without question). I have no issue with peoples personal God but I abohre the God given to you by the Church.

I understand that some people may argue that religion does a lot of good, but it is fully outweighed by the evil it causes in its name. I would also say that since I can live a decent life without the fear of religion and hell hanging over me that makes me a better person than someone who acts in that manner purely out of fear for the rewards the can reap in death.

I hand the floor to you.

Lmao, fucking awesome. And yes, I am American. That was hilarious.

What they don’t tell you is that you will have to pay tax on the winnings; they will ask for your Social Security Number before handing over the points as is required. 100,000 MS points is around $1200 USD, and you typically pay about 30% on winnings to the IRS = $360 in taxes. :(

Theres not enough good content on the marketplace to justify paying $360 in taxes for.

Comment by Fetter on 2008-01-04 14:48:01 | Reply

$360 in taxes? Coincidence? I think not.

Well, if you’re not happy with the tournament, try participating in the Powerball-lottery; much bigger chance of winning…

I would rather not have 1 bazillion M$ points if I would have to PAY $360 AND win the tournament! What a joke. Its a way to sell a low selling game, get you to download the expansion pack, then the “lucky winner” gets to pay $360 to buy a zillion points to use on digital downloads that cost them cents IF anything at all! Garbage.

Comment by Worms on 2008-01-04 18:25:05 | Reply

Microsoft points have NO monetary value, says so on their sight. You don’t pay taxes on gifts or awards with no monetary value. You guys are wrong.

Ya theres no taxes on something with no value. The only thing i can think of is that there gunna stack the leaderboards with people that work for them or some bull like that. 100,000 points can buy you the whole damn marketplace. Im gunna try it, if i can get my broken 360 back in the next two days >_
