Rock Band: Real drums; new peripheral in June

Anyone not happy with the drums included in the Rock Band set will find the following news highly interesting. Someone very clever managed to modify his current drum set, which can take much more of a bashing than the included ones, so that it functions perfectly with the game, meaning you can thrash out to your heart’s content. Also, Gamestop inadvertently revealed a new peripheral that will be headed to stores in June.

It’s a long and complicated process, but there’s bound to be some of you out there that will fancy having a go. You’ll need to be prepared to take apart both the Rock Band drums and your own set of drums, as well as having the competency to be able to put it all back together again. Even better, the drums will be up for a public performance on the 18th-21st January 2008 at the Orlando Science Center in Orlando, Florida. It would certainly save many a lot of time to just head to the Center and try them out, rather than modifying your own.

As for the peripheral: have you ever felt there’s something lacking from the whole Rock Band experience? Drums: check. Guitars: check. Microphone: check. Lights: che- oh wait, no lights. Smoke: che- oh wait, no smoke either. Thank goodness then that the new peripheral spotted on Gamestop will fill another two holes in Rock Band. That’s right, a Stage Kit is headed to American stores on the 23rd June apparently, the “Interactive Light and Smoke Stage Show” kit will make the whole rock experience even better. For a cent under $100, it better be damn good to warrant the money, but too big and there just won’t be enough room to house all those damn peripherals. What a dilemma.

“Interactive Light and Smoke Stage Show kit” ??????
-My Lighter and Bong do just fine.

I wouldn’t mind a real nice new guitar thou. I can’t remember if it was GH or RB….. but a while back they mentioned that eventually they would make high end guitars for the hard core freaks. I’m not really hard core…. but I might be willing to fork out some cash for a nice & heavy, well built finger friend. (get your mind out of the gutter, I was here first) - Maybe something that has the looks of Rocks Bands Tar, but plays like Guitar Heroes Les Paul. (minus the clicking strum bar)

I’d like a good guitar with strings that I can actually pick and have it detect like the strum bar.

I agree with the bong and lighter. I get way to many colors bleeding together anyways i don’t need more lights

ooo heres a shocker, lets get an actual guitar! It will have actual strings, play actual notes, and take actual talent to play a song.

^^^^^ i love that comment…i see that on every board and forum that has to do with rb or gh. lemme guess you suck at both so you have to bash people for liking these type of games??

Comment by UmBop on 2008-01-14 21:28:49 | Reply

Lol. I play drums and guitar, yet still enjoy to play a GH or RB game from time to time. It’s just a videogame, no one is claiming to be a musician God by playing them. This guy’s only talent must be playing guitar, hence the bashing.

I don’t delude myself into thinking that I’m gonna be a rockstar by playing RB. The Real bands never made their songs with a strum bar and color-coded buttons on their guitar/bass.

I play this for fun. Besides, it’s a lot more rewarding than playing the real thing and realizing you suck, sans the possibility of Rock Star credibility hahaha.

I am not sure why GH and RB acutally piss off guitar players. its just a game that hella hurts your fingers after a while, comparing GH or RB to the real thing is like saying play DDR is actually dancing.

im actually not bashing the game. i own both. and theyre fun to play. and ive been a musician for over 10 years, and i play more than just guitar. i was responding to Worms comment that he wants a “good guitar with strings that I can actually pick and have it detect like the strum bar.” the gh and rb guitar is made that way for a reason. if you want something more realistic buy an actual guitar. thats all

so…your bashing it

$100 for lights and smoke, common, all you need is some colored transparant film to tape over existing lights and some steam from a hot pot with water in it, a whole $5….

Comment by MCycle07 on 2008-01-15 05:23:23 | Reply

or you could just play with matches. thats always fun…

yeah this really is milking the game. if i could get it for free (which won’t happen) i think it would be pretty cool, assuming that the lights and smoke are programmed with the game

Smoke machine from your local tech shop is about $30 low end. You can get a set of lights that change to music for about $40. Save yourself the money and just buy the real thing direct.

wait for the entire whopping kit to come out all in one package for like 300 dollars… same price as a console at the point practically… i guess i can’t really be that mad as i think it would be sorta cool to have, and i can see that this would be appealing to some hardcore enthusiasts of the game and the novelty is pretty cool, but at 100 bucks no thanks.
