Undertow is the free XBLA game
Anyone hoping for a choice between different Arcade games will be disappointed, as Microsoft have just announced that Undertow will be the free Xbox Live Arcade game for all the woes that Xbox Live has been suffering since the holidays.
Undertow normally comes in at 800 MS Points, but as of Wednesday 23rd January right through to Sunday 27th January, the game will cost nothing. Why Undertow? Apparently it is one of the best looking games available on the service, and also the highest rated.
For those who have already purchased Undertow, don’t despair. John Porcaro, Microsoft’s Group Manager and Online Marketing Communications man, says that Xbox Support are ready and waiting for your calls, suggesting you might get re-reimbursed the 800 Points you already spent.
We’ll remind you about this nearer the time, but hopefully this will cheer you all up just as the weekend rolls in. It still won’t stop the lawsuit though.

I like it. I never tried it but I heard it was good. Always nice to get something free. As far as having to call to get re-imbursed, it’s stupid but I know why they are doing it. For the majority of the people who downloaded it (as I understand it has been a popular download) they don’t know about it or won’t bother calling in time to get the points back (that’s assuming you only have that window to get your points back too). So for those people Microsoft keeps the money you paid for the game.

Great, my xbox is off for repair on Monday after getting the RROD so I get 3 weeks of no xbox plus the crap live service over christmas and miss the oppertunity to get the game free, well and truely screwed over, thanks once again microshaft

I just called XBox.com support (I already own Undertow) and they stated that Undertow is the only thing they’re offering and that there’s no other alternative. So if you’ve got it already you’re stuffed. You can be damn sure I’m going to be putting in a complaint about this. Shocking level of service! Be warned, folks.

Trying reading MY post before responding in an inane fashion. I CALLED MS and they stated there’s no other alternative which includes reimbursement. I’m aggravated that they won’t follow through on their claims. That’s what I mean by shocking level of customer service.
I wouldn’t blame microsoft if they didn’t reimburse you guys who’ve already bought Undertow. Halo maps are free in the spring, are you going to ask for your Points back then? Small arms was dropped to half price. Why not ask for your 400 points back?
It certainly wouldn’t surprise me either, but what M$ should have done is to give away a NEW arcade game. Therefore everyone gets compensation for the month of deplorable service we’ve had. Not a select few. Very poor decision on their part. Even when you’re the top console provider in the world, you can’t afford to let your customer service slide as this is where you build your real reputation and that’s where M$ fall down. Duke Nukem 3D for free would have been awesome!

I’m with ya. I could really give a shit what I get. It’s nice to get something but I was bothered that much with my service.
Also Tony Romo you’ll be paying more in lawyer fees than you would get. What did you have maybe a total of a month of bad service. So you would get $7. The game costs more than that. Hell I already have Undertow. I might get a reimbursment of 800 points but thats a maybe. I really don’t give a shit though cause I haven’t lost out on anything.
I Europe it’s 60 euros per year which is more than 90 dollars. And yes my live service was that bad during the holidays… it was impossible to stay connected for more than a couple of minutes.
Not really, Nintendo and Sony give it away for free.

Undertow is a great MP game. I just downloaded it a few weeks ago and had a blast playing it with my friends. Now its going to be free….so what!!!I had fun with it and now I’ll have a ton of new people to play it with. Oh, just so you know undertow games were working perfectly though the whole X-mas break.

I’ve read that people have called support… and were told that they’re out of luck. Maybe it will be resolved…. but I wouldn’t hold my breath.

Man I’m glad I just played Rock Band offline over the whole break. Didn’t notice Live was fucked until I saw it on websites. Gotta love RB.
Yeah I was playing PC for the most part, and didn’t yet buy undertow. So works for me. I’ve suffered enough anyway. I’m on my fourth or fifth 360, I kind of lost count.

To be honest, this works for me. I’m quite happy that they’ve chosen this particular title, and that they were wise enough to recognize the problem (Xbox Live issues) in the first place.

I played the demo… it’s not bad. Gotta read morte on how to play… didn’t understand it really.
I don’t have it, so I guess I get it, but to be honest, I thought the demo blew so I’m with those who would’ve rather had the 800 points.
As I expected, I’m not too excited. I tried the demo, and much like my opinion of most XBLA games, I didn’t care for Undertow.
I might download it since it will be free, but I seriously doubt I’d ever play.
For those who like to tell others how to act and say “be happy”, please allow me to return the favor and say “piss off”! You can be happy. I will form my own opinion.
I tried it when it came out…. I didn’t think to much of it. But since we’re getting it for free…. I thought I’d try the trial again… and I gotta say I had a better experience with it this time. The graphics are nice, and there’s a bit more to it than I originally thought.
Now if they would just fix the DRM issues I’d really be happy. I’m on my 2nd Xbox… & can’t play 70 of my 82 arcade games unless I’m connected

I will be getting it today for sure. I mean it would be silly not to since it’s free. I’ll definately try it again as I wasn’t super impressed with one play through on the demo. I’ll read through the help to understand it better. It’s a good looking game though. I’m sure it’s a good one.
i tried REALLY hard to like this game, but i found it immediately boring, and endlessly repetitive. i even played coop, and i usually love coop games. smells like ass to me.
Just Dl’d it and played it for a bit, its not that good. Free is good and everything but it would have been MUCH better to just get a free 800MS points instead. :/
Yeah it’s just OK for me, don’t see it getting played that often. I know Live was crawling last night. I bought 7 songs for Rock Band last night and it took forever to download them.
