Lost kicks off on XBLVM, more content on the way

Media junkies and proud owners of the slick 360 console rejoice, as the award-winning TV series Lost has launched on the US Xbox Live Video Marketplace today. Also, Microsoft has released details on what new content is scheduled to storm the servers throughout the month of February.

First of all, to coincide with the season premiere of Lost today, the first three seasons of the TV series have become available for download on the US Video Marketplace, with the first episode of Season 4 coming up later today. A single episode will set you back 160 Microsoft Points if downloaded in Standard-Definition, or 240 MSP if in High-Definition. Furthermore, Microsoft promises that new episodes will become available within 24 hours of airing on TV. That’s not all we’ll be seeing from ABC Television however, as popular TV shows like Ugly Betty, Desperate Housewives, and Grey’s Anatomy are all set to arrive later this month.

Disney Channel will be joining in on the February fun by releasing shows and TV movies such as Hannah Montana, High School Musical, High School Musical 2, and The Suite Life of Zack and Cody. Beginning the week of February 18, new releases and classic library titles from MGM will be bolstering the service’s abundant offer of video content, as well as new movies from Lionsgate, Warner Bros, Paramount Pictures, and New Line Cinema.

Movies arriving this month include:

  • Mr. Brooks (MGM, available in SD and HD)
  • The complete Rocky series (MGM, available in SD and HD)
  • Films from the James Bond series (MGM, available in SD and HD)
  • The Usual Suspects (MGM, available in SD and HD)
  • 3:10 to Yuma (Lionsgate, available in SD and HD)
  • Saw IV (Lionsgate, available in SD and HD)
  • King of Kong (New Line, available in SD)
  • The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Crawford (WB, in SD and HD)
  • Michael Clayton (WB, available in SD and HD)
  • Stardust (Paramount, available in SD and HD)

Hopefully, these additions will find their way to the European Video Marketplace (read: the UK, Ireland, France, and Germany) sooner rather than later.

Since Lost is on Sky One on Sunday, it would make sense to have near-simultaneous releases on the XBLVM - especially since Virgin Media customers can’t watch it!

anyone else just LOOOVE the XBLVM ? HEHE

One thing i wish they would start is doing ad-sponsored tv via XBLVM… like i don’t mine 3-4 commercial breaks if you give it to us in high-def and for free… im broke i rather watch commercials than have to find money for points.

They would never do that, but perhaps at a reduced rate :)

IMO, the XBLVM is a waste of time and space. I have not, nor do I expect I ever will, downloaded anything. I wouldn’t waste my time watching the craptastic show “Lost” for free and I damn sure wouldn’t pay for that junk.

3:10 to Yuma is slightly tempting because I want to see the movie, but damn if I’ll pay to download it when I can wait a little longer and watch it on HBO or Showtime (or whatever HD channel it appears on later).

I already pay for all of the HD channels, so why would I pay again?

I wish I could sell someone else my access to the XBLVM. I’ll never use it, I’m sure.

Is still, for the life of me, can’t understand why they only offer certain movies in SD. The 360 is a HD unit. IMO, all content should be offered in HD.

because, before the advent of digitisation, most films, if not all films were recorded at a lower resolution. You can’t magic up 4 times the clarity overnight. In fact, you can’t up the clarity at all. Most new movies however will have HD options.

You should find a hiding space for that ugly appendage of yours…Your head.

I have a “Super computer”. I’m on it right now.
I have a 360 to play games. Great games at that.
Nuff said.

LOST sucks. too many questions, and 0 answers.

Comment by Tater on 2008-02-04 20:16:21 | Reply

There have been plenty of answers. They are even more answers if you listen to the podcasts. If you knew what the island was, you wouldn’t watch the show. They are telling you a story and now that the series has an end date, there shouldn’t be any more filler episodes.

been wanting to see the king of kong for awhile now. 3:10 to yuma is a great movie also. all we need now is Heroes and Star Trek : TNG & the video marketplace will be complete

It’s pretty obvious why there’s SD and HD versions of movies and shows, not everyone has a HD TV.
