Roogoo announced for XBLA

Curious to see what all the Xbox Live Arcade fuss is about, SouthPeak Games has announced that this Spring will see the release of Roogoo, an “innovative, charming” puzzler. Make the jump for the first details as well as two screenshots.

In Roogoo, players are tasked with guiding block-shaped meteors through a number of rotating discs, thus saving the planet Roo and its entire populace. The goal here is to align the discs so that the meteors can pass through them freely. It might sound easy to pull off on paper, but the developer assures us it can get quite challenging as you progress through the game. Not only do various obstacles and enemies start bugging you, but the flow of meteor blocks ramps up progressively as well.

Said Melanie Mroz, CEO of SouthPeak Games:

Roogoo is a rare breed of puzzle game that combines compulsive play with an engaging storyline and a wonderful fantasy world. With its accessible gameplay, unique charm and high production values, Roogoo is set to carve its own niche when released for Xbox LIVE Arcade and PC. Gamers will definitely have loads of fun mastering its unusual depth and trying to become the guru of Roogoo.

i think i would rather guide a block-shaped meteor through my head.

roogoo on you

These kinds of more casual games with strange, less than conservative themes, stories, and gameplay elements seem to be getting pretty popular. It’s hard to tell from the screenies and description what to think about this particular example though. I’m sure I’ll try the demo sometime.
