New Silent Hill V screens

Last year may be regarded as the best year for the videogame industry, but 2008 will surely surpass it as far as horror games are concerned. Condemned is getting a sequel in March, Alone in the Dark is being brought back to life and, last but certainly not least, Silent Hill is going next-gen with the fifth iteration in the reputable survival horror series. Having not been in the spotlight since September last year, Konami has today released a bucketful of new screenshots to remind fans of the genre that shivers aplenty will be sent down their spines this Fall.

Though Silent Hill V is being worked on by The Collective, and not Team Silent, the developer behind most Silent Hill installments, the slew of new screenshots unchained today fail to give away that important detail, as the moody, bleak atmosphere seems to be intact.

What do you think? Does it look like a Silent Hill game to you?

These graphics fail to amuse me, but hopefully the game will.

You hope the game will fail to amuse you too?
why?

Ewwwww that is VERY VERY unpolished.

Agreed, looks awful, the ‘monsters’ in these shots would kill you by laughing so much at them.

Along with the turd of a video for Alone In The Dark, doubts (for me at least) over the look/feel of Condemned 2 & NO sign of Alan Wake I’m looking to Resi 5 to save the day. Or month. Or year. Please?

i’m no graphics whore so when it comes down to awesome gameplay like the rest of the silent hills, i’m backing it in full….eff a graphic

We’re all ho’s of one type or another. The gameplay will have to be A++ to offset the seriously cr*p gfx. This one’ll be a ‘wait & see’ title for me anyhow.

The Silent Hill series has never failed for me. SH4 was probably the weakest due to the slightly dodgy control system they implemented (particularly the first person bits). Silent Hill kicks the ass out of every other survival horror title as it dares to do something more unique stylish and actually makes you feel quite uncomfortable while you’re playing it as it can be genuinely disturbing. It’s also worth noting that in all the silent hill games to date, they’ve utilised a noise filter on the graphics, Mass Effect ripped it off recently. I don’t really care what the graphics look like above. They’re not great, but they’re not terrible. Simply a MUST purchase.

I’m a little less on the “MUST PURCHASE” Side, but I agree. The graphics to be honest from these screens actually don’t bug me at all. When I see them all I think is. “Wow, next gen silent hill :)” Then move on.

Can’t wait to try this, hope they even throw in a demo to be friendlier to my pocket first :P

When I see these screenshots I don’t think next gen. They barely even look current gen. There are a bunch of games already out that look better. Still, this game isn’t out yet, so it’s no use complaining about things now, although people always do that anyway. Like you, I’ll try the demo when it’s out. :)

Those graphics look amazing, if they were on PS2. I thought Xbox 360 games had more polish than that.

Give them time, the graphics will get better… Anyone remember how bland Saint’s Row looked? And now GTA4 is coming and it looks amazing.

“The Collective” nuff said. ill be giving this a miss then. God i wish EA would buy this studio….. and then shut them down!! I can’t remember an even “good” collective game, they are a compleatly average/below average studio. Rant over!

And the camera is bound to be dog shit, they have never managed to get that right in any of there games!

Maybe I’m not seeing what some of you all are, but from my point of view I think it looks alright. I love the Silent Hill series and am hoping this will be another great hit like the others were for me.

Now yes, Alone in the Dark does seem to have a graphical edge over these current screen shots, but…that’s not what completes a game. It’s not all about the fireworks and splender…the shine and the polish. A game requires so much more. Innovation, intelligent storytelling, haunting mood music/sounds, and finally a control system that is both intuitive and involving.
