More Euro 360 price drop rumours [Update]
As we move ever closer to March 14th, the day Microsoft is rumoured to drop the price on all 360 SKUs across Europe, more and more evidence is coming in to support the enticing claim. Going hand in hand with last week’s report today are the advertisements of a Dutch retail store Bart Smit and the Financial Times Deutschland’s scoop on the rumoured price cut.
If Bart Smit’s ads spotted in the wild are to be believed, all three Xbox 360 models are in for a welcome price slash come this Friday, with the Elite dropping to 399.95 EUR, the Premium (Pro) falling down to 299.95 EUR, and the Arcade sinking down to a low price of 199.95 EUR.
Lending some heavy weight to the rumour is the Financial Times Deutschland’s “exclusive” report which states that all three units are to come down in price later this week. Given that FTD is a renowned financial newspaper in Germany, it’s hard to believe that they got it all wrong.
Should the new prices come into effect later on in the week, the Arcade unit would become the cheapest “next-generation” console in Europe, underselling Nintendo’s Wii by as much as 50 EUR. As such, Microsoft would have a leg up on its rivals both in terms of games and pricing.
Update: That was quick – Microsoft has officially confirmed the price drop all across Europe. Major Nelson has compiled a rather nice list of the old and new prices and, to our surprise, the Premium and Elite units will cost less than first thought:
- Xbox 360 Premium - was:
€349.99 / £249.99now: €269.99 / £199.99 - Xbox 360 Elite - was:
€449.99 / £299.99now: €369.99 / £259.99 - Xbox 360 Arcade – was
€269.99 / £199.99now €199.99 / £159.99
Thanks to Darren/Kainz Uk for alerting us to the confirmation!
All we need now is official confirmation from Microsoft. Until then, tell us what you think in the comments section below.

And you Europeans say you never get anything good.
we still have to pay 116$ for games though
holy shnike, thats a lot.
Where are you getting your games from manjuice? Online & plenty of regular retailers have top titles at $70-80, still too much but better than $116.
I don’t want to know where manjuice is getting any of his anything. Ewww.
are you insane… goto amazon.com and just order from their shesh!
Now when will we see similar pricing hitting the US ):)
160 quid for the arcade model? bargain!
wait a second 299 for the premium with 2 free games????
269.99 EUR actually
$116 for a game??????????????????
Yeah. The exchange rates thing doesn’t happen in the UK with regards to this sort of thing.
What you get is that something costing $50 in the USA will cost ÂŁ50 in the UK. Bearing that the exchange rate is something like 2:1, that means we’re paying closer to $100.
And people in the US wonder why we complain about being ripped off all the time.
Just don’t ask us about petrol (gas) prices…
Oh come on, it’s only 105p ($2.10) a litre. That’s only $7.96 (ÂŁ3.98) per US Gallon.
Holy shit, you can’t be serious. I had no idea games/gas were/was that expensive in Europe, and I was just in France this past summer. I noticed how expensive the food was, but damn, those gas prices are ridiculous, as are the game prices.
Yup, we don’t exagerate, we do get screwed quite a lot on the pricing of certain things.
We can get parma ham cheaper here than in the U.S though, so there.
Well, in Europe the gas prices are just sick. About 1,4 € per Liter of gas.
