MS reject two XBLA ports

Japan’s most popular magazine and the world’s most famous magazine Famitsu interviewed Masaki Sakari of developer 5pb who were slightly upset that Microsoft rejected two ports of classic Arcade titles. DoDonPachi Dai Ou Jou and Ketsui: X were rejected for the Xbox Live Arcade service, despite being hugely popular with Japanese gamers.

Xblah report:

“Out initial plan was to port lots of good arcade titles to XBLA. We talked to IP holders of these titles, and persuaded them. We secured these licenses, and finally talked with Microsoft. There they rejected all of our proposals saying, ‘We are going to cut down faithful arcade ports.’ We felt so frustrated. We wanted to show them that their decision was wrong. So we switched our two most promising projects into retail.”

Perhaps Microsoft have heard the cries from gamers about the lack of original games on the service, however to reject two games that are incredibly popular in a region that Microsoft struggles in seems like an oversight. It now means the games are going to retail and will likely cost slightly more as a result.

another instance of m$ pretending to listen. they really have their ear to the ground. too bad they’re fucking deaf. these games look great, and to think of all the shit we have had to endure for them to start denying decent games a chance. the arcade is already cluttered with crap anyway… what are they worried about?

My advice to the developer is don’t release it for the 360 but do it on the PS3 instead. Maybe M$ will learn one day but i doubt it.
I haven’t brought anything from XBLA for ages but have brought loads from the PSN as the games are so much better, jeez you can get GT5P of the PSN, damn that must piss M$ off no end, if only they would lift their stupid restrictions i am sure games would improve immeasurably.

XBLA…i thought it stood for X Box Live Arcade?
There seems to be the word Arcade in there….but there reducing direct ports of arcade games. I wanna see some arcade classics like Outrun or Strider, Ghouls n Ghosts & Bubble Bobble with achievements. Im sure they would sell bucket loads.

my, you said one game that hit the jackpot. Ghouls n Ghosts. I would love to see that with achievements. Probably will have something like “beat the game 3 times to get the true ending - 50G” lol.

Good job MS, we have enough of this retro crap already. Lets rather give more spots to XNA or new releases.

Comment by mu on 2008-03-31 01:02:54 | Reply

yeah, because those spots are so limited.
