Fresh Guitar Hero III DLC coming later this month

The Guitar Hero franchise may be the more popular kid on the block when compared to EA’s Rock Band, but it sure as hell isn’t the better alternative in terms of downloadable content, as Rock Band clearly dominates the area. To show a snippet of mercy to all the owners out there, Activision has announced that a new pack of downloadable songs is on the way for Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock.

On April 24th in the US and May 8th in Europe, the British metal band Def Leppard will release their new single “Nine Lives” on the Xbox Live Marketplace a whole week ahead of its debut in stores and through online music distribution services, making them the first band/artist to release a single prior to its traditional launch through a videogame. The new single will be accompanied by another two songs from the band – “Rock Of Ages” and “Photograph” – and will sell as part of a Def Leppard song pack.

Lead singer Joe Elliott is exhilarated:

“Being involved with Guitar Hero is very exciting for us & adds a whole new layer of appreciation. I know from personal experience how much more you get into the music by playing the game – which is why we were keen to explore this opportunity. Guitar Hero is extremely popular with all kinds of music heads, which includes a lot of our fans – and we think releasing Nine Lives this way first is just fantastic!”

Do we have any Def Leppard fans here?

I never said anything bad. They have good songs. I’m glad it’s this and not a Britney Spears rock remix or something.

Although this would be interesting in Rock Band. One arm drumming if my rock history is right.

You’re upset at that? What are you, a teenage girl?

I was sure someone was going to mention “Pour some sugar on me”….however the two songs that they chose to include in this pack are two of Def Leppard’s best songs. Trust me…you won’t miss “Pour Some Sugar on Me” when you play these two.

Are they going to charge for these? Because they are basically a big advert for Def Leppard’s new single.

Yet I don’t think that is going to affect things much.

If they put this single out digitally over XBL will there be any way to transfer it to an MP3 player or will I be stuck listening to the new single only in the game?

You can only hear it in game. I’m sure you can go find it online.

See the trick is only pick on those that can’t do you no harm

Not a HUGE Def Leppard fan, But they are one of the few bands that can actually pull off their cd’s live. They are nothing but pro’s in concert. What you hear on their records is what you hear live.
Rare these days.

Not if you’re listening to the right music…
