UT III gets exclusive content, GoW 2 treat
Unreal Tournament III on the 360 has been a contentious issue. While the PS3 and PC allow user created mods quite freely, Microsoft are much more uptight. As it is, the game won’t be shipping with mods, nor will they be made available after the release for the time being. However the 360 version will receive some exclusive content, with Mark Rein hinting at a little treat hidden in the game, which has something to do with Gears of War 2.
Bonus features being included in the 360 version of the game includes five exclusive maps, two new characters and a two player split-screen mode. Certainly a nice addition and always nice to get something that the other versions don’t have.
Speaking at the official unveiling of the 360 version, Mark Rein dropped in a quick comment about a hidden nugget:
“The game (Gears 2) is spectacularly good. I’m not committing to any features. In the mean time, buy UT3. There might be a surprise in UT3 that’s Gears related. Just saying. In the 360 version. You’ll have to buy the game and find out.”
What could it be? An unlockable Gears character? A demo of the game?! No-one but Epic know, so speculation can start in the comments.
That wasn’t all Mr. Rein had to say about the game. He stated that sharing mods between users is unlikely to happen anytime soon because of Microsoft’s issues with allowing such a thing.
“We know some of these great mods are going to play a role on Xbox 360, even if we have to get some people and bring them over ourselves. We’ll figure it out.”
If Epic can’t reach an agreement with Microsoft, they are prepared to bring the content over themselves, in the form of Xbox Live Marketplace DLC. Are you prepared to pay for some mods though if we assume Microsoft charge? Share your thoughts below.

Q: “Are you prepared to pay for some mods though if we assume Microsoft charge?”
A: NO
The maps will stay exclusive for about 10 minutes until someone remakes them on PS3.
same with charcters,
what’s the point of having bosting about exlusive content on 360, when anyone on pc/ps3 can make them, or at least download them off someone who has made them.
sorry, forgot to delete “having”
They’re really working to make this game worth playing on the 360, and they’re doing a hell of a job. I’m definitely in.
Epic rocks. They’re always willing to go out of their way for gamers.
NO. fucking microsoft, thieving bastards for a change. why don’t they learn? we pay for a bad service so these should be free for compensation purposes.
If Its so bad why dont you fuck off cus after all no one likes you any way!
Bad service? LIVE is the best online service out there IMO. You get what u pay for. The issues during Xmas were pretty sucky though. But meh.
i’ve been on XBL for over 5 years now… thoes times at Xmas were the 1st time i had ever watched XBL be sooooo bad… kinda like PSN
Two-player co-op? Cool! That should be fun for awhile.
I built a new PC for UT3 (and video editing) - and have to say I found it a little dull compared to UT2004.
The whole orb thing seems to have messed up the game a bit.
Cool graphics, but I still prefer the good honest playability of UT2004 & UT99. But I’ll watch the reviews regardless and if it scores well, I might check it out.
But I am really looking forward to Gears Of War 2 - something designed from the ground up to be played on a console - with the new engine build, tuned to extract more juice from the 360, we should be in for a treat.
Just hope they can inject a few new multiplayer modes, so we all spend a bit less time sitting out of the game whilst we’re wearing our ‘newbie’ locust/cog skins!
IF they charge for the DLC it will be up to Midway, not Microsoft.
Also there won’t be a demo included with UTIII, I can tell you guys that much.
I understand why Microsoft wont allow MOD sharing… and I am pretty sure this is how the discussion went down…
Epic: we are going to port UT3 to the xbox and playstation.
MS: Niiice.
Epic: we will allow mods to be shared between users.
MS: Cool, but can you guarantee that the mods wont crash the game and allow the user to run malicious code?
Epic: eeeehh… NO..
MS: Fine, you may NOT add mod sharing in the game for the xbox…
So does UT3 have an Onslaught style game mode?
