Tiger Woods PGA Tour 09 - first details swing in
The emergence of an annual update to Electronic Arts’ licensed sports titles is as predictable as an outburst from Jack Thompson at the announcement of a game slapped with a ‘Mature’ rating. The latest sees the developer lifting the wraps off Tiger Woods PGA Tour 09, and you’ll not be surprised to hear that it promises to be the most feature-packed edition of the series to date.
This year, EA is banking on the inclusion of Tiger Woods’ Performance Coach Hank Haney as PGA Tour 09’s unique selling point. Players’ skill levels will improve (or lessen) dynamically, which is where he comes in. Haney will be on hand to assist gamers as they hit the links and try to advance their career to win the FedExCup. Following each round, Haney will give personalised feedback on your game - praising you if you’re doing well, or beating you about the head with a driver if you’re not… Okay, maybe not. Just offer a bit of friendly advice on how you might improve.
EA Sports’ GamerNet (hosting competitions such as long drive, approach shots and putting) is also being touted for the Microsoft Xbox 360 version of the game, while online play has been enhanced, now allowing four players to tee off at each hole simultaneously - adding a “rhythm” as EA puts it, and generally speeding up the whole process.
“Tiger Woods PGA TOUR 09 is the most authentic golf video game on the market, and we’re excited to bring an immersive experience to the masses,” said Executive Producer Mike Taramykin. “Our partnership with Hank Haney provides fans immediate coaching from one of the top minds in golf. This year’s game brings unprecedented levels of customization and control, allowing seasoned vets and first time players ‘inside the ropes’ of TOUR golf.”
Tiger Woods PGA Tour 09 will be released on the Microsoft Xbox 360 this summer.

While last year’s version on the Wii wasn’t that bad I hope it gets a total overhaul this year. I’d rather play it on the Wii then the 360.
Good to see that EA sports are throwing out that tried and tested customary first shot of Tiger on the 18th Fairway at Pebble Beach.
Speaking of Jack Thompson, he’s been awful quiet with the recent release of GTA ain’t he?

Ahem …
These kind of people scare me more than Silent Hill 2…
Yes I love this game so much…
Can’t wait already
After the bug-ridden debacle that was TW06/07/08, I can’t see me returning to this franchise. This one would have to be good, tested and supported with appropriate patches to make me want to play it. The achievements didn’t even work properly on the previous games, what hope have you got.
Confidence levels are definitely low on this title being any better than the previous three.
yea…i tried 06,07,08 and after about a week with each 1 it just gets boring for me. this is coming from someone who plays golf so i think im gonna pass this one up.
I liked 07 very much, but 08 was a mess. I also have VERY low hopes for 09. Will definitly rent it though.
They ruined the physics in 07 and it STILL contained buggy code that they’d re-used from 06. E.g. in the stats, it states that the game only has 6 courses so you end up completing 12/6 courses in the stats. Direct leftover from 06 which only had 6 courses. I don’t know how many times I hit a perfect ball in 07 to find it stopping dead inches from the pin even though it had plenty of power to get it into the hole. And one of the achievements was glitched. And the lag and forced animations were still present. I preferred 06 to 07 for the feel of the game alone. 08 is just a mess. 05 was the last good TW game I played. The ought to go back to basics and find out what made the game good before.
saddo’s…:) - just means you’re all skint… yeah the other games were buggy in parts and I hate gamerclips or gamernet whatever its called, can live without that
every year a stupid tiger wood game? does he come up with a different way to hit the ball every year? how about some ninja gaiden 2 news?
Does this pathetic game still allow you to change the spin on the ball after it’s been hit?
That was enough in previous versions to stop me buying any of them. Links is an old game now for the original Xbox, and is still better than any tiger woods ea game so far. Come to think of it, the old Amiga computer had golf games better than any Tiger Woods EA rubbish released so far. Even PONG had better physics….
