THQ announces WWE Legends of Wrestlemania
As if the annual Smackdown Vs. Raw games weren’t enough for wrestling fans, THQ has today revealed that WWE Legends of Wrestlemania is in development, on schedule for a release next March to coincide with Wrestlemania XXV in Texas.
The press release suggests that famous Wrestlemania battles will be re-made in High Definition, giving gamers the chance to “Relive, Rewrite or Redefine history”. There’s absolutely nothing else about the game mentioned, but Peter Matiss, vice president, global brand management, THQ had this to say:
“We have generated significant year-over-year growth in key global territories with WWE-licensed videogames, including tremendous success with the WWE SmackDown vs. Raw franchise. The development capabilities afforded by next generation hardware, combined with our established history and deep understanding of fighting videogames, allow us to leverage the strength of the WWE brand to further extend our leadership in the fighting videogame genre and bring this new property to market.”
And Nelo Lucich, senior vice president of interactive, JAKKS Pacific seemed rather excited at the prospect:
“JAKKS Pacific is pleased to introduce a new WWE videogame property to the fighting genre. The WWE SmackDown vs. Raw franchise has captured a collective audience of WWE fans, game enthusiasts and casual players, and we are confident that WWE Legends of WrestleMania will be poised for great success.”
Let’s hope that this is significantly different to what Smackdown Vs. Raw offers, otherwise there will be little to warrant another franchise in an already-bloated series. Let us know your thoughts of THQ’s strategy.

Zeus, Macho King, Hogan, Warrior, T.Santana, R.R.Rude, Superfly, Coco B.Ware (lol), Ted DiBiase, Daveyboy Smith, Legion of Doom, Demolition, Big Boss Man, S.Slaughter, Earfquaaake etc…bring it on!
They’ve got my money if they can make it happen. I never bought SvR 2008 because I felt it wasn’t a big leap from 2007.
Given that this title will probably be a rehash of 2008 with new models and the odd sprinkling of new features/modes I will most likely still buy it tbh.
