Doom 4 on the way, id Software hiring

Today id Software announced that production is well under way for Doom 4, the next step into the Doom universe. Developers id Software have also announced that they are currently hiring for some people to help work on the game, but you’re going to need to be damn good.

Todd Hollenshead, CEO, id Software explains:

“DOOM is part of the id Software DNA and demands the greatest talent and brightest minds in the industry to bring the next installment of our flagship franchise to Earth. It’s critical for id Software to have the best creative minds in-house to develop games that meet the standards synonymous with our titles.”

Nothing else is revealed about the game thus far, however that will hopefully change in the near future. For now, get those resumes off to jobs@idsoftware.com and pray that you get to work on a game that will likely be quite good. Also head on over to the Jobs page for a full listing.

DOOM 3 was awsome, let us hope the new people who are helping to make DOOM 4 can live up to the franchise and not fuck up.

Hopefully this won’t be as tiresome as Doom 3.

Doom 3 for me was far too dark, trying to fight in pitch black just became annoying more than anything else. I wasn’t too impressed.

Oh and i second the Duke Nukem request, make the game gaddammit!!!! :o)

Doom 3 was pretty much average with bad framerate on the 360.

Doom 4 should use ID’s new engine of course. They did issue a atatement not too long ago that the new engine they have created allows developers to use unlimited textures in any game with very little memory needed. They also stated that they threw everything they could at the engine but they could not get it to drop below 60fps, also any games would look equally good on PC, 360, PS3 and even Apple Mac’s. So much so that you would not be able to work out which version you was looking at.

Bold claims from ID. I hope they are true. The unreal engine is getting old now and it shows, so maybe it’s time for developers to look at ID’s new game engine.

Oh, and I agree about Duke Nukem.

Have you SEEN the latest version of the Unreal engine in action? It’s absolutely awesome. No way is it getting old.

But have to totally agree on Duke Nukem. This game is a mandatory requirement for the XBox Live Arcade. I must have completed that game dozens of times.

And to quote the Duke himself, “Where is it?”.

id needs to do something else. That companys entire legacy is the doom franchise. And to be honest, its not one of the best.
