Bayonetta to shake up action genre
The past seven years have given birth to such action masterpieces as Devil May Cry, Ninja Gaiden, and God of War which have brought the action genre to a whole new level. However, not everybody is of the same opinion, particularly the creator of DMC and Viewtiful Joe, Hideki Kayima, who recently inquired: “Have action games really progressed past what we accomplished seven years ago?”
Meet Bayonetta, the game that will take “action to its climax.” Normally, we shrug off promises like these, but when a developer like Platinum Games (formerly known as Seeds), which comprises of some of the most talented people in the games industry, stands behind them, colour us interested!
The game that is to change the way action games are played today features a witch heroine named Bayonetta who is reborn in the modern day to fight against angels. Besides being able to rely on her supernatural abilities, she’s also a skilled martial arts fighter and “equips guns on her feet.” One of those all-around gals then, we take it.

The original Devil May Cry was a great game. Lots of fun. However, every DMC game since has been utter crud. Too many boss battles. Oh, you’ve killed two enemies, let’s have another boss battle. Not my idea of fun. I want to lay waste to a good few more minions before I feel like wasting my time on a boss battle (which are generally rather boring, IMHO).
