Konami announces Rock Revolution

Ever since Electronic Arts stepped into the realm of rock rhythm games with Rock Band and turned up the heat in the genre, things have gone well for gamers as two giant companies (the other being Activision, for those not up-to-date) battle each other for supremacy. The competition will only get fiercer this Fall when Konami’s newly-announced rhythm game Rock Revolution joins the fray.

Unlike Rock Band which features a single-player campaign that fully supports all of its three peripherals, Rock Revolution is a drum-focused game that includes two separate career modes – one based solely on the drums and the other on the lead guitar/bass. Also different is the structure of the drum set, since it includes seven total buttons, as opposed to Rock Band’s five. The feature list goes on with five difficulty levels, downloadable content support, 40 tracks interspersed between hardcore, punk, rock, and classic genres, and online multiplayer which allows for four players to duke it out on the stage (or a team of three on one console against another team of three on another console).

Said Anthony Crouts, Vice President of Marketing for Konami:

“Rock Revolution will be the most innovative and realistic rock game to hit the market, that will provide a quality drum peripheral and music that players will appreciate. As the originator of music-based games, we are dedicated to bringing fans a truly preeminent music experience. With Rock Revolution, we put the emphasis on the drum kit, delivering an experience unlike any other.”

Features

  • Rock out on your drums, but also wail on your guitar or bass all in the same game
  • A broad range of music styles
  • 40 songs on disc, with downloadable songs and song packs available after initial release
  • Use the Drum Kit and Guitar freely in Jam Mode, and record on up to 8 separate tracks
  • Stunning unique and authentic venues
  • Up to 15 cool and realistic characters
  • Online and offline multiplayer: versus, co-op and band battle
  • Rehearsal mode: practice sections of songs at different speeds
  • Career mode: play songs, learn techniques, create set lists and complete challenges
  • Online persistent scoreboards allow performance comparison with other players around the world
  • The most realistic drum peripheral on the market, created by real musicians for an overall hard hitting experience

Rock Revolution is slated for release this Fall on the Xbox 360, PS3, Wii and Nintendo DS.

They should be aiming for the UK market with cheap peripherals. Rock Band pretty much has the US market. I don’t see people abandoning that to go spend a load of money on a copy of Rock Band.

Wow, seems very original. Good thing we have another dumb plastic peripheral imitation rock band game on the market soon. I was starting to run out of crap to waste my money on

This game is complete garbage compared to guitar hero or rock band. I won’t even go near it.

the video does leave something to be desired compared to Rock Band … looks a lot like Guitar Herpo to me. (Yeah I spelled it that way on purpose moron)

Okay, so the guitarist looks like a spaz when he plays, and the set list is entirely hair metal.

And it’s focused on the drums.

Maybe this is realistic in an alternate universe?

Guitar Hero = cool.

Rock Band = bad ass.

Rock Revolution = OK, OK, we get it. We love music and rhythm games. Enough is enough already.

Its time for…

FOOLINJECTION’S USELESS KNOWLEDGE !

Rock Revolution was also the name of the theme tune to the UK TV game show Interceptor.

is it fun watching real music die?
i mean, why would you wanna express yourself and feel a sense of accomplishment when you could be sucking dick all day like the people who play ‘music and rhythm games’?

Comment by ManoDestra on 2008-05-20 17:48:48 | Reply

Amen. Music and rhythm games suck ass big time. Okay for a few minutes fun with the kids or with drunken friends, but you wouldn’t seriously play them on your own.

I’m not even going to bother.

When I first heard about it i was like crap, another drum game because I love Rock Band drums and GH4 drums look very tempting but I don’t want to waste my money on all of them.

But then I saw the video… CHEAP IMITATION!
So yay!
