Penny Arcade hopping onto XBLA this Wednesday

Microsoft has today reconfirmed last week’s news that the long-winded Penny Arcade Adventures: On the Rain-Slick Precipice of Darkness: Episode One will be released on the Xbox Live Arcade this Wednesday for a whopping 1600 Microsoft Points, making it the most pricey title on the service to date.

Penny Arcade Adventures: Episode One comes from the Penny Arcade creators Mike “Gabe” Krahulik and Jerry “Tycho” Holkins who promise the Arcade game retains the humour and ludicrousness of the famed comics. As the title of the game indicates, Episode One is the first installment in a planned series for the Xbox Live Arcade.

Features

  • Create-A-Player system: Create and develop your very own character to participate in the adventure.
  • Episodic content: Penny Arcade Adventures keeps the fun going with new material released regularly, with pick up and play capabilities from any episode, and the ability to carry over your character’s appearance, stats, and inventory from episode to episode.
  • Dynamic combat: The turn-based combat system features over-the-top animations and team-up moves during enemy battles.
  • Role-playing adventure: The classic adventure-style gameplay combines with RPG elements for a mysterious and puzzling good time.
  • Twisted goodness: The crazed geniuses behind Penny Arcade promise a thrilling and wild ride, with story and dialogue written by written by Jerry “Tycho” Holkins and art by Mike “Gabe” Krahulik. Working with Gabe and Tycho of the Startling Developments Detective Agency, it will be your job to resolve the chaos and solve the mysteries of New Arcadia.

Is 1600 Microsoft Points too much for an Arcade game or is a Penny Arcade-inspired game too good to pass up?

That’s an extortionate price for what will probably turn out to be a generic piece of self-promotional masturbation by the PA folk.

Better be one hell of a game and episodic content free for $20.

That’s £13.60 for all us UK folk. This would need to be something special to fork out that kind of dough. Never read the comic so I have no idea what this will be like. Can anyone recommend this?

$20? Hell no. I still don’t even know what Penny Arcade is. And now I don’t care.

The funny thing is if this came out on a disc people would say it’s a great price. I for one am buying this and don’t really care about the price. If you don’t like the price you don’t have to buy it.

You’re assuming that $20 will buy you the entire game, which it won’t. Even if ensuing episodes are $10 each (which hasn’t been confirmed, just throwing out a number) it will still work to $50 for all 4 episodes. Not such a good deal when you think of it that way.

If you dont like it, then don’t buy it…No one cares if you think its a rip-off…..Yet we all buy DVD’s when you can download them, same with music, GH and Rockband Tracks, arent they overpriced as well??

Beating a dead horse if you ask me….
