XBLA file size limit raised to 350MB
After numerous complaints that the 150MB file size cap for Xbox Live Arcade titles just isn’t cutting it for developers around the world and, likewise, never-ending cries from gamers for heftier downloadable games, GamesIndustry.biz has today confirmed with David Edery, Worldwide Games Portfolio Planner for Xbox Live Arcade, that the file size limit has been increased to 350MB. Hurrah!
Q: And you’re upping the size of Xbox Live Arcade games as well to 350 megabytes?
David Edery: Yeah, it’s a steady progress. We’ve been listening to our partners, listening to our customers to try and get a feel for what’s right. We don’t want the size limit to hit the roof because we think there’s some value in promoting small pick and play experiences that don’t cost USD 20 million, it’s good for the ecosystem.
Hopefully, developers will be satisfied with the file size step-up and will use the change towards making better and bigger Xbox Live Arcade games. Away with the cheap retro crap, and in with meatier (preferably original) Arcade games!
Now if they would dump the small drive and lower the big drive to $99 it might make 350mb XBLA games worth it.
At least you dont have to install the games on it like you do on PS3.
Yeah, but at least on the PS3 you can just shove in a standard SATA drive without having to pay massively over the odds for a ’special’ hard drive.
Yes thank god for the increase - I really want to see more better looking games on XBLA that isn’t a puzzle or some crap 20 yr old port

350mb for an arcade game seems solid though i was hoping they’d just keep it nice and jump to 512mb … then release a larger memory chip, drop the old prices… and reduce the cheap 20gb to like 39.99 and the 120gb to 99.99
either way i have a 20gb and its never full… not to mention if u do erase something just redownload it this isnt itunes guys you can redownload things you’ve purchased in the past.
size isnt everything, SOTN is the best game for XBLA so far and it is 95 MB, other great games could do it too

Yeah they need to bring the price of the 120GB HD down in order to balance this out. Its what, £129.99 ($255 USD) here in the UK right now I think I saw it in GAME for.
I’ve got 9GB left on my 20GB drive however, but then I only have maybe 3 or 4 full arcade games and I only ever usually have 1 demo downloaded at any one time… GRID is on my system right now. Must pre-order that.

I kinda like it… sure its arcadey, but its fun… specially taking that Mustang up and down the streets of San Fran.

Right. I love me 360, but I have a Wii. WiiWare has just been released an already there are 2 quality games available. both under 40meg. Better than anything on XBLA too.

sounds alot better so i might get one for
XBLA games and halo 1,2 and 3, frontlines,
dead rising, mass effect, gears 1 and 2 and
three other games I won’t mention. please don’t

I’d probably get a elite with an extra 120GB
hard drive. but have a Ps3 with Uncharted, Heavenly Sword and Devil May Cry 4 and I’m going
to get Haze, GTA4, GT5 prologue, MGS4, Resistance 1and2, Motorstorm 1and2, ratchet and clank, killzone 2, little big planet and
F.E.A.R. and a bigger HDD probably around 500GB
with a new PSP with games for it like secret agent clank, God of War, Monster hunter freedom 2 and Crisis Core FF7. Quite a shopping list that.
