New GoW 2 scans show off new weapons, enemies & more
There seems to be no end in sight to Gears of War 2 updates which just keep streaming in one after another. The latest to stumble onto the intertubes is a selection of new scans that come from an unnamed magazine, plus one from the May issue of Game Informer, all giving us a first look at some of the new weapons, characters, and environments featured in the Gears sequel.
First off, a site called Recenzeher has posted a large number of new scans from an unknown magazine, five of which we embedded to show off the new features of Gears of War 2. A few of the new characters that appear in the sequel can be seen in the scans, like the spiritual honour-bound fighter Tai Kaliso and skilled soldier Dizzy who looks a bit like Chuck Norris. The scans also demonstrate the all-new flamethrower, two new types of Locust soldiers, with one of them being the Hammerhead Grunt Locust, as well as the new bullet shield called “metal buckler.”
Lastly, the same Game Informer issue that brought us a plethora of new information on the Gears follow-up last month now offers new pictures of the game. Since only one of them reveals anything new, we’ve embedded just that one photo, leaving the rest of them on Vito’s Verdict: The Gaming Blog where they originate. What the picture below reveals for the first time is the new Locust rock worm and the mage-like Locust Kantus, along with Marcus doing what he does best – feeding the Locust with lead.

Obviously never seen the gameplay presentation at the anniversary event,MGS4 is far differnt to previous MGS’s (apart from the cutscenes, but who cares there awesome!!!) than GOW is to GOW 2. MGS4 still has base infiltration to keep fans of the series happy but most of it takes place on the battlefield.

First game was tremendous. This will be even better. Even if it’s more of the same, I’ll still love it. Only GTA can beat the gameplay of Gears IMHO. Great game.
Can’t wait to play it!!! All the changes they made to the game sound amazing! Hopefully they really fix the host-advantage shit! Even tho i stopped playing GOW and now concentrate on COD4 and GTAIV, i can’t wait for GOW2! Best game!
Actually, I don’t even own a PS3. Spouting blind accusations like that prove how fucking stupid Gears fanboys can be when someone doesn’t believe their beloved game is the greatest game ever. However, I can easily say that MGS4 will blow almost any game on the 360 out of the water.. I just don’t plan on buying a PS3, as the other games DO make Gears look good. As far as graphics go.. “youre dumb” is right. They’re shit, unless you enjoy the same three shades recycled throughout the whole game. There are plenty of better 360 titles, and not just graphically

I promise you, if you play a video of MGS3, and a video of MGS4 side by side.. It looks pretty fucking different. And if you knew anything about the game, you’d know that you aren’t just ’sneaking around’. Either way, Gears 2 looks EXACTLY the same. Not a single fucking difference. Thanks for bitching about the cutscenes, though. You obviously can’t take a decent story that the writers/devs at least attempted to take time with.. I guess that explains why you play Gears.
It all just comes down to people who prefer being told a story as opposed to people who prefer enacting the story. I like both, but if I’m going to be told a story, it had better be a damn good game (like MGS3; the first two sucked quite a bit), otherwise I’d prefer to spend my money at the cinema.
And, to be fair, the MGS storylines are seriously fucked up.
The cutscenes aren’t what I’m talking about as far as graphics go. Gameplay itself even blows Gears out of the water graphically. And yeah, I like both as well. It just seemed the story in Gears was almost non-existant.. Like the most important things were in the backstory, and not in the game itself at all. It’s been a while since I’ve played it, but it seemed that the whole time, the objective was to put some bomb thing in the locust tunnel network; or whatever you’d prefer to call it. And yeah, I will agree with you on MGS’s story. It’s definitely fucked up, but it’s well developed, at the very least. And the fucked up quality makes it even better, in my eyes. XD
But yeah, it’s good to see there’s at least one intelligent person that visits this site. Thanks for not jumping down my throat just because my opinion differs from yours.

So far from what I’ve seen Gears 2 doesn’t have nearly the amount of enemies on screen as Viking which was released several months ago for both PS3 and Xbox 360.

Just so I get this straight, from what I’ve read in your posts, your opinion is that Gears 2 looks identical to the first, won’t be Game of the Year, and will be an average shooter. Am I right? I hope all this hate isnt coming from Halo Fanboys..-_- We all know that playability is more important than graphics. That was proven when Halo 3 sales raped every other games mouth. I hate Halo3 but facts are facts. MGS4 is a sturdy good looking polished MGS game but theres just not enough strong PS3 titles out there to make PS3 No.1. GOW2 and Fallout 3 definitely looking forward to.

All I’ve gotten to see are Youtube videos and trailers, so obviously I haven’t gotten to see the graphics in detail. As much as I think every Unreal 3 Engine game looks somewhat the same,
that doesn’t make it a terrible thing… I mean, those textures are pretty amazing. Definitely not mind-blowing (honestly, no game has been for me for a while), but it’s easy to see a lot of effort went into the environment, shades of brown, gray, etc. or not. I dunno, I just don’t like putting down games for artistic choices (re: Wind Waker on the ‘Cube). I think they both have amazing graphics, and I’ll just take them for what they are. It right annoys me when people compare game X to game Y (see: Halo fanboys) and they’re two completely different things.
As for the story, well, it’s been stated that the first Gears was a set up for the rest of the series. As for actually playing the story, I agree, there wasn’t much there to actually play through. Does that justify Epic’s decision? In my eyes, no, but whatever; it’s their money to spend. If they want to put out a game lacking in story then so be it, I’ll just wait for the next one and see how it is. It doesn’t justify the hype, but I ignore that for the most part. I can get hyped up on my own about things (GTA IV made me giddy).
Compare that with MGS4, which has been in production for -years,- and obviously it’s going to have a lot more *cough* substance. It’s like a Tool album. You need something to play in between the times those things come out, right? Not saying Gears specifically, but for what it was, it was a good hold-over for the more epic games, possibly even the new Gears (but more specifically Mass Effect, Oblivion, Fallout 3, etc.). It had some pretty nice touches that made it different enough from everything else, and at least managed to add to the action/shooter genre.
Tater, yes, that’s right. And I respect your opinion on the Wii.. It’s obvious it’s not to everyone’s tastes.
And as far as Halo goes.. I find it to be a bland, overrated shooter with an incoherent story.

Yeah, the only game I’ve really been impressed with visually lately was GTA4, but it was nothing amazing. Great game, though. Art direction doesn’t really bother me, and in some places the first Gears was a nice looking game. But throughout most of the experience, I found myself thinking that it was nowhere as impressive as it was said to be, and that there were plenty of better looking titles.
That’s the thing, though. I’m hoping that statement about the story is true, because this could be an above average title if they really put a lot of work into the story.
Either way, I respect your opinion, as you actually manage to voice it without telling everyone else that they’re wrong. However.. I just can’t say that I feel the same way about Gears. It was just a big let down for me. I really only enjoyed the co-op.

C’mon, what game looks better than Gears, honestly? And don’t give that “it’s too dark a game” bullshit. Look at the amazing visceral effects, showing off vibrant reds and oranges (well, mostly reds, but still). I just can’t see any game looking better than Gears as of now. Bioshock comes close, but it’s still not quite there. There’s no way there are “plenty of better looking titles.”

GTA4 is impressive because of its large-scale graphics, but it’s clearly not as detailed nor is it graphically superior.
Gears may not be the best looking game ever (Crysis at full settings has it beat), but I think it’s safe to say it’s the best looking console game as of right now. But hey, it’s hard to compare, especially with the games you mentioned. Bioshock is first-person, and GTA is open-world, so, it is, in a way, opinion.
Either way, Gears isn’t “far” from the best looking game ever.
And yeah, as far as all of the gore goes, it’s decent. Too cartoonish, though.
