First FIFA 09 details: “250 key improvements” promised

The 2008 edition of Electronic Arts’ FIFA Soccer and Konami’s Pro Evolution Soccer saw the gap in quality between both lessen considerably, with many claiming that EA had finally knocked Konami from its perch at the top of the football simulation tree for the first time in a long time. Proving that it isn’t content with resting on its laurels, EA has announced that FIFA 09 will include “250 key improvements” over last year’s effort.

FIFA 09, we’re promised, is set to include (according to Gamesmaster magazine):

“…improved responsiveness that allows for quicker release of the ball, greater urgency in the off-the-ball running, a new jostle system that takes into account the strength of the players when going shoulder to shoulder and subtle animations that enable players to take first-time shots.”

The developer is also said to be hard at work in dealing with improving the series’ collision detection, meaning that player statistics in power, speed and weight will make a noticeable difference on the pitch. As well as visually and in big bumps, the improved system is said to be apparent in further situations, such as when a player’s legs are completely taken away from him, or simply clipped… in the latter case, he’d be able to carry on running if his vital statistics deemed that he was strong enough, for example. Looks like Chelsea’s Drogba could be a bit of a pickle for the developers on that one…

FIFA 09 is planned to be released this autumn.

Good… Now maybe Fifa 08 will come down in price… year after its release and they still want upwards of £50 for it in some places.

I only want it for the SPL and cos Gretna is in it lol.

i really dont know how people like pes08 its crap online crap graphics are like fifa 06 world cup 1s just plain alround crap

Tucky, have you actually played FIFA 08 vs PES2008??? I don’t think you have somehow, PES2009 won’t play or look any different to PES2008 and will probably have a stack load more bugs…. FIFA keeps looking fresh, they introduce new physics, PES has been the same since it first came out on the Xbox…. I used to be PES through and through, now I wouldn’t even touch it with yours!!!

I have been a pro evo fan from back in the day when it was ISS on the super Nintendo but PES2008 changed that for me, while it is a good game and played well it is useless online bordering on unplayable which made me experiment with FIFA08, initially I thought it was slow and unresponsive but once I got used to it I found it was an excellent game which I hate to say it, felt better the PES2008. I felt let down by PES2008 and FIFA08 filled the gap. Now I am waiting for the next releases the 2009 versions of both games. I have no loyalty I will stick with the better game from now on, do the same !!
