xbox will never get ffxIII coz it’s programmed around the crystal tools engine. i’ve got a ps3 and a 360 and although there are more games out for the 360, the ps3 has much more possibilities. i’ll buy xbox exclusive games, but when it comes to multiplatform games i’ll uy for ps3 coz it’s loads better

Oblivion sucked.. Huge letdown after playing Morrowind. Mass Effect is possibly the greatest game on the 360, besides Bioshock. The story may have been littered with cliches, yet it was still somehow amazing.

I would have to agree with most of the comments above. I despise turn-based fighting and so never really get engaged by any of the Japanese RPGs such as Final Fantasy.

However, when Oblivion came out that blew me away. Awesome graphics, FPS controls, but all the levelling up and other stuff you would expect from a turn based RPG.

Mass Effect is good, but not great. The conversations become tedious after the 2nd playthrough. And unlike cut scenes, you HAVE to plow through them regardless. But again, no turn based nonsense.

Eternal Sonata isn’t too bad either. Although it wanders towards turn based, you get action points to use during battles which at least gives you the illusion that you’re controlling the battle.

Turn based battles just don’t give me the sense of control that I want from a game. Definitely looking forward to Fable 2 and Fallout 3 in this respect. They are both going to be fantastic and I’ll be racking up quite a bit of time in both, I suspect.

mass effect good but it wasnt much more than a standard rpg nothing ground breaking besides great discussion interface and graphics

the FPS console is now officially the RPG console, i can barely find a FPS to save my life

have to agree.. the xbox is good as a dev platform in japan and elsewhere because its great for multiplat due to its ease to program for

and the ps3 aint that far ahead of the 360 in japan guys

I just think its great that MS still pushes out Jrpgs even though they lost in japan. everyone (who love JRPGS) win well except sony only players

Yea the 360 is dead in Japan and yeah the Wii is the best selling console all around. But he change is the fact the 360 is close second and in some countries still the top rated console. so if SE and Tri-ace want a next gen game that will sell alot they need to multiplatform and since it is easier to program for the 360 we get most all of the games first and if they sell will then the ps3 gets them or they just come out at the same time. Point is while the wii is the most popular system the 360 is the new PS2 thanks to easy programming and better features in multiplatform games (acheviements anyone?)

xbox is dead in japan…it’s not the right audience for fps after fps…lost odyssey tried to change this for them and tales will probably sell a few consoles but they won’t ever hold more of an audience in japan and asia in general than nintendo and playstation have

I have to disagree there…I found Oblivion to be hecking tedious. It looked nice, but the most fun I had with it was punching lots of crabs in the face.

How is Microsoft courting all this Japanese RPG developers if the Xbox is dead in Japan?

And what happened to PlayStation being the console of choice for RPGs? Now it seems Xbox is getting all the good ones while PlayStation is left with crappy ports…

word to the wise, don’t judge the genre by Mass Effect. Its not my favoourite type(s) of games but I do play a few. While not a ‘bad’ RPG game, its not what I’d call a good one either.

go Oblivion or go home…….for now at least.

I don’t mind the Japanese RPGs like FF etc and played a few on my old PS2, but the moment I hear that there are “random encounters” I back off buying them on the 360. Nothing puts me off more than having spent an hour getting through a section only to find everything is respawning again and even worse, randomly.

Final Fantasy 7 is worth a pop. I’m not a big fan of RPGs either, but that one is my favourite RPG, heck, almost definitely my favourite game of all time.

meh, bring on fallout 3! and Fable 2. i used to really like the FF series but ive really been turned off by the last few, fable is better to me, fable 2 sounds like it will be the king!
