Sonic Unleashed set to include RPG elements

SEGA is hoping that its new home console version of Sonic will do far better than 2006’s PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 title ‘Sonic the Hedgehog’, which did terribly poor in terms of sales due to bad word of mouth spreading quickly thanks to it being rather atrocious in quality. Coming off the back of the massive success on Wii, though, with Sonic and the Secret Rings, it is hoped some lessons have been learned.

Some new details of SEGA’s new Sonic project have appeared in a popular publication from Portgual by the name of Maxi Consolas, with the magazine doing an in-depth preview of Sonic Unleashed in this month’s edition and lifting the lid on some previously unknown details. In the midst of the article, it is revealed that just as in Sonic and the Secret Rings for Wii, an RPG-esque element will be included, whereby players will be able to level-up Sonic’s various abilities through the obtaining of experience points gained during the adventure.

On top of this, Maxi Consolas also confirms that Sonic’s plethora of friends will be making an appearance, with the likes of Tails being playable during mini-games found in the game. Other points covered in the preview include how there will be lots of different locales to play through, such as New York and China. The camera work is also thought to be very impressive so far, with the newly implemented Hedgehog Engine handling the transition between two- and three-dimensions very smoothly indeed, with the exception of the odd bout of slowdown being present at this stage.

Is Sonic Unleashed sounding better and better by the day, or are some of its new features potentially putting fans off? Be sure to share your thoughts by posting below…

i was actually really pumped about this game until i heard that it would feature sonic turning into a werewolf at night [or something along those lines], which i think is ridiculous. when is sega going to learn that nobody wants these ludicrous additions to the sonic franchise. all we want is a game where you play as sonic, go really, really fast, and at the end of every couple of levels you fight dr. robotnik. maybe throw in tails and knuckles as bonus playable characters but that’s it. all the other characters are ridiculous and so is the idea of sonic becoming a werewolf.

i didnt hear anything abotu a wearwolf, some rpg elements is a long way from all that i mean the game was looking bad a$$ from what i’ve seen, i doubt even they would do something that oddball
