With the ever so strong desire to tap into a broader audience, Microsoft continues to try its luck at releasing games (maybe even new peripherals in the near future) that it hopes will appeal to a wider market. One such Microsoft-branded effort is no doubt the Viva Piñata franchise. Microsoft has announced today the date it will give the cult series another shot at breaking into the mainstream.

We’ve known Viva Piñata: Trouble in Paradise was purported to release in September since the game’s announcement, but today the company narrowed it down to September 5. For this third console iteration in the series (Party Animals counts as the second, unfortunately), Rare is stepping it up with 30 new piñata species to fill the garden with, expanded co-op options, multiple locations such as the icy Pinartic and the arid Dessert Desert, and, last but not least, new gameplay modes. Will this be the Viva Piñata game the original was supposed to be? We’ll find out soon!
