More Rock Band 2 news: new songs and drum set revealed

No, we’re serious, we have more news on Electronic Arts’ upcoming peripheral-heavy opus, Rock Band 2. Coming from the latest issue of Game Informer are the revelation of the new Rock Band 2 drum set, as well as a limited edition “Ion” drum set, and the confirmation of seven new tracks that will be included on the sequel’s game disc.

Drummers will be faced with three possible peripheral choices in Rock Band 2: use the drum kit from the original Rock Band, get the new, enhanced one from Rock Band 2, or pony up for the limited edition Ion drum set which will include three cymbals, each tied to one of the existing colours. Whereas in Rock Band 2 the cymbal expansion will only serve as an alternate input for one of the existing four pads, future Rock Band installments could use the cymbals for some “unique functionality.”

Adding to the list of ten tracks confirmed yesterday is a set of seven newly revealed tracks:

  • “Almost Easy” by Avenged Sevenfold
  • “Bad Reputation” by Joan Jett
  • “I Was Wrong” by Social Distortion
  • “Livin’ On A Prayer” by Bon Jovi
  • “Rock’n Me” by Steve Miller Band
  • “Testify” by Rage Against the Machine
  • “White Wedding Pt. 1″ by Billy Idol

Guitar Hero:World Tour, so far, looks more appealing… to me, they havent really changed anything, just little things… the choice to make your own songs on GH is better, the Drums look better, guitar better… so its 90% certain I will be getting GH, as they also have licensed Metallica… but it’s god to see my favourite band (Avenged Sevenfold), finnally making it onto a game disc intead of downloads, (Apart from Beast and the Harlot on GH II)…

So… GH FTW…

umm last i checked while GH-WT looks great and the drums are cool, they cant swap out the brain for a convert to a true electric drum kit like the ion RB2 drums can.

I’m locked into Rock Band with about $100 in DLC I’m definitely buying RB2 so I can keep using it. I’m probably just buying the game disc and that Ion drum set. The drum set will have MIDI in it as well so if you plug in a drum module to it you’ll be able to just jam on it.

That’s pretty cool. I was not aware of that.

I’m with Worms, I have £25 worth of DLC in RB and I’m loving this refinement in RB2. Will probably also just go for the ION kit too.

Guitar hero has lost me this year im rock band all the way!!! I dont agree with Xo synyster oX on the new GH guitar looking better. To me it still looks like a kids toy! At least rockbands guitar has gone for a realistic look also i dont think the “make your own songs on GH” is going to be any good !! Harmonix use master tracks to seperate the guitar , drums track from the song eg. you miss a note you dont hear it. I dont think you will get this sort of quality from GH song maker thingy still i could be wrong

I’m definitely getting the whole set for GHWT. Rock Band 2 I’m probably going disc only. Unless the Ion set is going to be at a great price, I think I’m going to pass on it.

im getting the ION, why? it can be a electric normal drum set as well… also from the looks it will probably be GHWT compatible if GH F*ckers dont block it.

This in my opinion is getting pretty freaking frustrating. Every year they come out with something better than the last and I payed a ton of money for the last thing. I really like the ion drumset and I really hope they make the strum bar on the guitar “less squishy” and more clicky like in GH. It’s tempting but I think I will get Rock Band for this reason. They’ve already got like 200 songs that are downloadable which is cool because instead of having a “create-your-own song” without lyrics and singing and having a bunch of people to to make songs with vocals, we can get master tracks on Rock Band. Another thing to consider is that Guitar Hero has made some pretty ridiculous note charts (i.e. the the second to last five song. on GH III). Whereas Harmonix has made a few odd looking charts, it’s probably the best you can get. And how is Neversoft going to make accurate drum charts with three tom drums? There isn’t any floor tom! So in my opinion Rock Band 2 is the way to go, even if you don’t want to trade in your old Rock Band crap, it is still backwards compatible. And I’ve really been wanting to get an electric drum set, cause my acoustic is a pain in the ass. So yeah, I’m getting Rock Band.

o great! now i can have an ok RB1 drum set, a real drum set, and a kick ass RB2/electronic drum set. I think I’ll be set on drums for a while.

tracklisting for rb2 is worlds better than rb1

I’ll buy Rock Band 2…. but maybe just the game. The new drum kits do look good…. but I’ve hardly played the drums in RB-1. I guess I prefer the guitar. Plus, like many others…. I’ve downloaded quite a few tracks already. (About 40 songs)
It’s great that they are backwards compatible… but the only thing I don’t like about D/L tracks is… the crowd doesn’t seem to sing along with you when your doing good… like they do on the disc tracks. It’s not a huge deal breaker…. but it is cool when they sing along.

I’m SOOO glad I held off buying the drums for RB; making a metal kick-pedal, ’soft’ drums & wireless for the next iteration is acknowledgement of how poor the originals were (sorry for those that did buy them).

For me it’s gonna be RB2 and not GH: WT. Might’ve been the other way round if RB2 was ages away but the tracks, DLC, note charts, confirmation of online BWT & the fact HMX have musicians designing/creating the content make it a no-brainer really.
