Perhaps the biggest news to come out of Microsoft’s Press Conference today was the announcement that former Playstation exclusive Final Fantasy XIII would be coming to the Xbox 360, much to the delight of Sony haters and RPG lovers.

Update: Actual E3 trailer now posted, and it seems some clarity is in order with regards to the release of both versions.

It’s been long questioned, but the answer finally came today. It will be released simultaneously with the Playstation 3 version and be coming to both North America and Europe. A trailer was shown off to the lucky audience with some resemblance to Star Wars, before it concluded with the news that 360 gamers would be getting a slice of the true sequel (and not just the possibility of a Final Fantasy XIII Versus edition).

It’s great to see Square Enix bringing more and more games to the Xbox 360, who also in the same Conference spoke more about Infinite Undiscovery, The Last Remnant and Star Ocean: A New Hope. There’s lots to look forward to as an RPG fan this year and next.

Update: In a Question and Answer session hosted shortly after the conclusion of Microsoft’s conference comes word that there will be no differences between the versions, and the PS3 version won’t have any motion control. Square Enix plan to finish developing the game on the PS3 first, then when localisation begins, only then will they commence work on the 360 version. It is thus possible that the 360 and PS3 versions will ship at different times. It’s also been stated that the US and EU versions may ship at different times because of language issues, however Square Enix fully intend to reduce the wait seen with other versions. It was left up in the air as to whether the 360 version would require multiple discs. The game won’t be shipping to Japan on the 360 due to the lack of saturation out there, and an Asian version is still to be decided. Make of that what you will.
