[E32008] New Dashboard will still include themes
When Microsoft showcased the new look of the Xbox 360 Dashboard that will be introduced as part of the Fall Dashboard Update, many 360 players started to wonder what would happen with their beloved Dashboard themes that they’ve downloaded thus far. Thankfully, the grey background used in the on-stage demonstration of the overhauled Dashboard can be replaced with your favourite themes, reports Major Nelson, along with releasing a triplet of screenshots for clarity’s sake.
As you can see in the first screenshot, the theme will be used as some sort of a background image. It’s not known whether switching to the Community section, for example, will change the background image to something else, as is the case with the current Dashboard system.
The other two screenshots demonstrate how the download and game-specific areas will be presented when the new Dashboard becomes available this Fall. One thing is certainly apparent – browsing through the new Dash will require fewer button presses. Also, the clean, neat look and presentation of it all is quite appealing, we have to admit.

I express again that the new dashboard looks gay and the crappy interface like the one they pictured looks fit for my MP3 Player not my Xbox. Then again to further express my opinion I don’t care for the current blade interface either and for that matter the Wii navigation stinks too. But then again is an article comment section the place to have such a debate? MP3 players look like that because they’re streamlined for easy access to their separate features.
What’s wrong with streamlining things on the Xbox? There’s no need for things to be more complicated than they have to.
Also, “meagre” is the original spelling of the word. For whatever reason (sheer ignorance), the rest of the United States doesn’t realize that the UK (and even Canada) has different spellings for some words.

Well - I will admit I agree with that statement.
I have a single device that does a lot of different things and not one of them to the point I have eliminated other devices on my home network/entertainment center. Changing the interface doesn’t help that. Still after watching the video on www.Xbox.com and other source rather than static images above, I will say I am interested to see the changes and how they will act.
As for the spelling, Meagre is an english word, it has to do with the body of wine, I am pretty sure that is not the intent of the statement of The_Glovner and I just like giving him crap.

The blades suck… half the time the background theme you like makes the text blend into it making it harder to read… stuff is really cluttered and like yeah the blades are shit.
This is looking MUCH more clean and interesting.
I would imagine that you would get to switch back and forth between the new and older dash..at least I hope.
This has been confirmed as not happening. You have to like or lump the new interface come the Fall update.

At the the presentation MS did a real poor job of showing off the new dashboard. It looked very bland and horribly boring. Seeing these screens now and the fact that the whole themes dilemma has been cleared up makes it look much better, it looks like they’re sticking to the whole Vista look too. Which is actually very well done IMO.

I thought everyone would know by now that the new XBOX Guide uses the Blade system. I can’t remember what video I saw it in. It was probably a video stream on XBOX Live with Major Nelson.
Did anyone notice that the ‘Photo Library’ had a ‘Last Upload’? I’m guessing that we’ll be able to actually store images on the HD.

UPLOAD Photos? I thought you could only stream images from a another device. The only way I’ve been able to store images is as backgrounds.

You managed to contradict yourself there. One of the main reasons you bought your 360 was because it was MATURE and then you turned round and said something childish, although intensely offensive, immediately afterwards by claiming “avatars are just GAY”.
Why do Americans say gay when the words they really need to use are words like pathetic or garbage? Do you guys not realise how offensive you are being? America is a great nation in many ways, but this kind of behaviour really demeans you. And I hear it on XBox Live all the time and every time results in a complaint being filed.

i really like the new dash, these new photos really show off its benefits. The look is wayyyyyy more clan and looks to be even easier to navigate. im glad we can still use our themes (miami hurricanes baby!) but what about gamerpics???
The new dashboard SUCKS! It’s not even a dashboard anymore it’s a freakin’ Micro$ucks storefront. I’ll sell my 360 and get a PS3 before I let them put that garbage on my machine.

The dashboard is much clearer and far more professional looking now. Definitely the way forward. I agree regarding the avatars. Leave that to the Sony amateurs/youths/girlies. XBox is HARDCORE. That’s the way it should remain. All we needed was group chat, not fucking avatars. Why does every company feel that they have to rip off all the features of their competitors in order to stay afloat? PS3 is ripping achievements and M$ are ripping off PS Home with this avatars nonsense. Know your markets and play to them! You can’t please everyone. Don’t bother trying.

I’m not sure I understand your meaning. Everyone across the board has been shouting out at M$ for group chat for ages. What we don’t need is daft cartoon style avatars that are going to make the XBox look as kiddy-friendly as the Wii or PS3. I’m not saying anything here that hasn’t been said in internet forums for the past 12 months. Avatars are a gimmick. The novelty will wear off rapid, I am certain of it. But, like I said previously, you can’t please everyone.

If so, massive fail. The whole reason was for the shoddy chat support in some games. At least BF:BC addressed it somewhat but 4 people just ain’t enough.
