Xbox 360 instrument peripherals to be cross-compatible

Hot on the heels of Sony’s announcement that PS3 instrument peripherals will work across upcoming music games, including Guitar Hero World Tour, Rock Band 2, and Rock Revolution, Microsoft has announced that the same will hold true for the instrument peripherals of its own.

Following Neversoft’s E3 08 announcement that the Xbox 360 instruments from Guitar Hero World Tour will be compatible with those from Rock Band 2, Microsoft’s online community manager Chris Paladino has confirmed that “all the instruments from Rock Band 2, Guitar Hero: World Tour, and Rock Revolution will be cross-compatible.”

Unlike Sony who said that the SingStar microphones would work with the aforementioned third-party music rhythm games, Microsoft’s new karaoke title, Lips, wasn’t mentioned as one of the cross-compatible games for some reason.

Wtf kinda title is LIPS?!

Lol Lips is just pushing it too far IMO. I’m sorry but you can’t sit there singing to your TV without feeling like an idiot..Or maybe some people can, but I can’t.

Just for the record, MS said at E3 that they are happy for RB & GH to support the Lips mics, but they had not yet been approached by the game designers.

All the mics are just USB mics you can use any computer USB mic too with the games.

Brilliant ‘news’, companies see sense and make expensive additional games h/ware x-compatible to avoid people having to either clutter their homes with various large chunks of plastic or have to stick with one ‘brand’ due to expense.

A by-product of this love-in? The kit will get better because of the competition, giving us even more choice in exactly which make of plastic fantastic axe we press the buttons on when living out our rock’n'roll dreams in our bedrooms. Wearing just underpants. Or nothing at all. In front of the mirror. Most likely.*

* - In case some of you don’t get the irony I LIKE GH/RB …
