Rock Band title update makes song transfers possible
Starting today, an option to transfer 55 tracks from the original Rock Band to the forthcoming sequel is possible by going to the newly introduced “Export Disc” tab in the Rock Band menu. As reported back in July, the new feature will cost you Microsoft Points, 400 MSP to be precise.
Obviously, you need your Xbox 360 to be hooked up to the internet in order for this to work. All of the songs from the Rock Band repertoire (not yet known whether bonus tracks are included) will be exportable once you get your copy of Rock Band 2, save for the following few:
- “Paranoid” as made famous by Black Sabbath
- “Run to the Hills” as made famous by Iron Maiden
- “Enter Sandman” by Metallica
Rock Band 2 (game only) is set for release in North America on September 14.

Figures no Paranoid or Run to the Hills. We actually play those. I can deal with it though nice we get the option of transferring at all! 10 more days! Can’t wait to get the game and the new drum set!
I wish that the Fallout Boy song didn’t transfer over.
Does this mean I can export the songs to the xbox hard drive now and trade in Rock Band while I can still get a decent price for it?
If you purchase the Export Disc feature, you’ll be able to export all of the 55 songs to your hard drive, yes. And make sure you have 1,50 GB of space available
You can also delete any song you want once you’ve transferred over all the songs, so no need for that Fallout Boy song to take up space, if you don’t want it
This is the best news I’ve heard all day, thankyou Mr. Zan you are a true gentleman!
The pleasure is mine
I guess we can’t read *too* much into this regards EU/UK release, if anything it’s a good sign this functionality is globally available from the off & not locked to North America.
Regards the tracks, not fussed about losing the cover versions (also Monsoon by Tokio Hotel is apparently the 4th track that won’t transfer) and happy it’s only 400SMP.
All we need now is for the damned thing to in our grubby hands….
Why would I want to do this? Can’t I just put the original in the deck and play it?
It’s just an easy of use thing. That’ll take five minutes to switch discs and get everyone logged back in and crap … I’d pay five buck for the FIRST five minutes I’d save.
BOOOOOOOOOOOO for no Etner Sandman. That’s my favorite song of the bunch. ~hush little baby don’t say a word … and nevermind that noise you heard ~
“not yet known whether bonus tracks are included”
They obviously are, as the beginning of the article states that 55 songs will be transferrable. There are 58 songs on the disc, and we know the 3 tracks that won’t be transferred, so that sums it up.
“Why would I want to do this? Can’t I just put the original in the deck and play it?”
The gameplay is improved in Rock Band 2 (e.g. the talkies are a lot more responsive), so it’s worth paying the small price to play the songs in a better version.
Plus RB2 you can do sets where you pick several songs and play them without going back to the menu. Well worth $5 for me. 7 more days
