Duke Nukem 3D to XBLA this Wednesday

Stock up on some chewing gum, as this coming Wednesday you’ll finally get the chance to jump back into the boots of the macho alien slayer Duke Nukem and save the world, along with its sexy inhabitants, by downloading Duke Nukem 3D for the good price of 800 Microsoft Points.

As you await the release of Duke Nukem Forever, you can relive the PC classic and much more in the Arcade edition of Duke Nukem 3D. Either individually or co-operatively, players can blast their way through 39 levels featuring Hollywood, Los Angeles, a moon base, and alien spacecraft in the single-player campaign or they can go up against seven other players over Xbox Live in the multiplayer component of the game.

Features

  • Eight-player cooperative and DukeMatch multiplayer: Play ranked matches in one-on-one or free-for-all for leaderboard spots. A playlist of levels keeps the game fresh, with levels rotating on and off the list. Play co-op with your friends, earning single player achievements or completing the game entirely. It’s your choice how to play. By reserving private slots you can play with your friends or with strangers in any combination. Invite away.
  • User clips: Every time you play a game, a user clip is recorded. View the clips any time in your theater or share with friends who own the game. Upload the clips to leaderboard spots if you complete a level in the fastest time, or if you have the highest score. Use these clips for tips on how to complete a level at speed.
  • Painless death: Review your play from the start of the level right up until your death, and jump back in at any point. Go back 10 seconds or 10 minutes, the choice is up to you. You can still save and load your game at any point if you prefer.
  • Gallery: Unlock achievements and Duke Nukem 3D concept art. Visit the Gallery at any time, view never before seen art, and learn more about the game.
  • Xbox 360 enhancements: The inimitable Duke Nukem returns in updated and improved form on Xbox 360®. The game now features controller vibration, bilinear filtering, motion blur, Xbox LIVE® Vision camera support for DukeMatch, multiplayer, and more.

I think this will be a lot like Doom: a lot of fun to play back in the day, but it really doesn’t stand the test of time.

I will be picking this jewel up ASAP… I’m buying points today to spend on this.

… I think the DOOM comparison can be made, but I don’t really think Duke will be as antique as DOOM seemed. I mean, you can’t even jump in DOOM.

But if you’re buying this and expecting it to be NEXT-GEN you’ll be very disappointed. It’s a retro game.

Wow “Nevers”! Thank you for making me feel old! I played Duke Nukem 64 when I was around 14 years old… Calling Duke Nukem a “Retro game”. Oww man! I’m going to buy this! I can’t wait to play this again! And for 800 points! “Hail to the king baby!” :)

haha… totally, dude. Between this and the classic rock radio stations playing Nirvana, I feel as though I should be farting chalkdust and fossils….. . . .. ..

Duke Nukem is a lot better than Doom.
You can actually look up and down in it.

I’ll pass, I still have the original cd laying around somewhere but I can’t be bothered to even search for it.

This is an ESSENTIAL purchase. This one’s the original FPS bench mark game in my eyes. Completed this game so many times it’s embarrassing. The achievements will be a complete walk over. They could have made them a bit more challenging. Still can’t complain, the Duke is back and the aliens have stole his ride again…

Tremendous game for it’s time. Great OTT humour taking the piss out of machismo game characters.

“He’s the Duke, he’s A Number 1. Say it!!!”

Name the film, boys and girls?

Correct. You have just won ÂŁ5.

Another great John Carpenter movie. Back in the day when he made great movies. Assault on Precinct 13 and The Thing are probably his best though. Although I’m a big fan of They Live too, for that fight scene alone that seems to go on for about 10 minutes.
