Electronic Arts cancels Tiberium
Following the decision to push back the release of the squad-based shooter Tiberium into 2009, Electronic Arts has today announced that all work on the game has been completely terminated.
The reason for the game getting the axe? Mark Verdu, please take over:
“It is with a heavy heart that I announce the end to all work on ‘Tiberium,’ effective immediately. The game was not on track to meet the high quality standards set by the team and by the EA Games Label. A lower quality game is not in the best interest of the consumers and would not succeed in this market.”
While fans of the Command & Conquer universe, which the game was based around, surely won’t take this sad news lightly, it’s a good move by EA when you take into account the company’s new-found principle of churning out high-quality titles.

It’s you who needs to grow up. EA haven’t released a good game in ages, they’ve merely released a few competent ones.
EA rightly deserve their reputation for churning out mediocrity because that is very definitely what they do. Their business is based almost entirely on franchises and the inevitable law of diminishing returns that this brings with it.
For EA to cancel a game it must be really bad. EA aren’t cancelling their retail rip-off that is Monopoly, are they? Dire as that game looks it’s still on the cards (or even released for all I know. Or any of the can’t-be-arsed sport sequels that they pump out year after year.

The majority of EA Sports titles this year are High Quality…… Madden, Tiger, NHL, FIFA and NBA……. But I’m assuming your not counting them…..

It’s amazing. Every single title you mentioned there is utter unoriginal crud. You could so easily have mentioned Burnout, perhaps Army of Two, Mercenaries 2, but no, just rehashed sports titles for people who like getting easy GamerScore.
when the hell did they start that shit? madden is successful because of EAs bullshit contract with the nfl. tiger, all those titles are rehashed bullshit. same old game with shiney new title and fonts!!!! need for speed is a prime example, its more out of gas than the southeast US
EA have produced some of the better next gen titles to be honest. This whole ‘OMG TEH EA SUX’ thing is getting old.
Lets not forget about the studios EA runs beneath their EA Games studio, including DICE, Mythic, Criterion, Maxis (Spore) and now Pandemic and Bioware.
And black box, they have my hand in marriage.
Fifa 09 is by far the best game they’ve made in 10 years.

and need for speed is geeting really old now, there is no point standing up for them everyone knows there just an evil corporation bent on buying out companies and ruining games.

All EA does is buy up great companies with awesome quality games, then have their crackpot game designers take the story and throw it away to exploit the audience so they constantly buy the games.

The only thing I respect EA for is the way the backed up the content of Mass Effect. Other than that with every sequel released I am losing interest in the games.
Its probably best that this game never got released to be honest as it must have been really dire not to meet EA’s “quality standards”
Anyway i really dont like EA as they have ruined to of my favourite franchises that being command and conquer, and harry potter the first of which was perfect before they took over westwood and ruined, the second was just thrown together as a glitchy mess and probably shouldnt have even been turned into a game in the first place.
I’m disappointed at all that Westwood bailed.
