Alan Wake to awake from slumber on October 15

Microsoft and Remedy have had the horror game Alan Wake under lockdown for so long that we completely lost the count of how many times Alan Wake has been absent from game shows such as E3 and GC Leipzig. Instead of bringing the buzz back to life at some top of the line event, Remedy has decided to launch a brand new trailer of the game at Finland’s Finnkino movie theatres on October 15.

A screen-grab from the upcoming new trailer of Alan Wake

Scheduled to appear during the Max Payne premiere in Finland on October 15, the new Alan Wake trailer will only feature in-game cinematics, with no actual gameplay whatsoever. But who cares?! Alan Wake will finally return in some form and new information about the game will soon surely follow. Colour us excited!

Well, Remedy resides in Finland.

So?

So it makes sense for them to do it there, first.

So I guess all gaming companies should only show trailers to their hometowns…

Interesting field of thought there.

Yeah, wasn’t this supposed to be one of the early release titles?

Hope this can live up to it’s premise/promise. It’s got to be better than Alone In The Dark, that’s for sure, but with Resi 5 coming up including co-op, it’s got some competition. As well as the new Silent Hill game which is a must-buy.

I think when games usually get delayed for this long it is usually because of development problems, so i doubt this game will be any good.

Seconded.

I think it’s like an artist doing a painting, rather than stop when it’s done they keep touching it up. A bit here and a bit there, in the end they’ve done so much touching up that its lost it’s essence and become all messed up!

I know, it’s probably a blind hope, but I can still hope for the best, although expecting the worst.

I’ve given up on this game being any good at all due to the massive delay and now, nigh on 3 years after it was first mooted, we’re supposed to get excited about a non-gameplay trailer?!?! As others have mentioned, delays in this arena are usually a BAD thing. I hope I’m wrong though.

Let history prepare us for the future. Was Brothers in Arms: Hell’s Highway everything Gearbox made it out to be? Was it worth the wait? Was it a well produced, highly polished game given all the delays?

Answer those questions, and you’ll have an idea of what to expect with Alan Wake.

If it ever materializes.

I was looking forward to this game; but after Too Human, I’m learly of any game that was in development as long as this game.

Alan Wake and Splinter Cell are two games that I have lost all hopes of being a killer ap. We will be fortunate if these games are good.

Surely the longer you work on a game, the better it will be.

It may not be always the case as Too Human proves, but I reckon this will be a belter.

I couldn’t believe how bad Too Human turned out to be. The demo was probably one of the worst demos I’ve ever played. The fixed camera angles were so old school, it was unbelievable. And the gameplay was some of the most repetitive and uninspiring in a long time.

I’m going to have to differ on Splinter Cell. Think that’s going to be a good one. I’m quietly confident. Ubisoft have a good track record with that franchise. They only fell down a little with the last one because of all those stupid bits in the HQ where you weren’t allowed to run or sneak. The next one I’m led to believe is based on the Assassin’s Creed engine so it should be awesome indeed.

Comment by zarbor on 2008-10-09 03:04:23 | Reply

Well, I’m not so sure how anyone can be confident after playing Assassin’s Creed. That game did not help Ubisoft agreed upon good record.

Back to Alan Wake, I’m not impressed with Gearbox though they have made decent games. I would feel a lot more confident with a name such as Capcom, Ubisoft or Epic…even Bioware.

I enjoyed AC. Although, I’d prefer to play the sequel to that if they’re going to use the engine again.

Comment by Takumi on 2008-10-11 08:34:19 | Reply

is the sequel set in asia? thats what i heard at college.

Assassin’s Creed was a great game. Very enjoyable. Tremendous graphics, very intuitive easy to learn controls. Bit repetitive and some of it was a bit too easy, but that didn’t detract from how much fun it was and (no one can surely deny) awesome to look at. The engine is solid hence why that makes me confident that Splinter Cell will be great. Ubisoft’s track record with Splinter Cell is sound. Can’t see how they can fail when they’re using the great AC engine for it as well.
