Following the many speculations that Microsoft had made an ill choice equipping the Xbox 360 with a standard DVD-drive instead of a Bluray or HD-DVD drive, criticasters feared that epic RPG’s and adventures would quickly span multiple discs. Joystiq now confirms that at least Bethesda managed to squeeze the much anticipated Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion onto a single DVD.

Responding to speculation, a Bethesda developer recently posted on The Elder Scrolls Forums that “the game will be on one disk.” For the time being, this puts to rest fear that the DVD-9 format utilized by the Xbox 360 is ill-equipped to handle the demands of next-gen data.

This puts down rumours that the epic fourth installment in the famous Elder Scrolls series would span a whopping four discs and strengthens Microsoft’s choice for DVD as its game delivery platform. An upcoming Japanese RPG, FromSoft’s Enchant Arm, seems to be the only title currently in the later stages of development coming out on more than one disc.
